I’d like to state for the record that she is an excellent announcer. She knows every fact and understands the dynamics of distance races. She calls them with emotion and rigor. So much better than some of the other jokers NBC used to employ. Good work Kara.
No she doesn't. She's even said so on her podcast. I guarantee she has no idea who Andrew Coscoran is. If it wasn't for Swangard we wouldn't have known who led the mile for so long.
Strong disagree. She seems like a genuinely nice person, and posts a lot on IG, but like most commentators, she has a gift for stating the obvious and just incessant talking. Sometimes less is more, a lesson all the nbc folks could learn. I typically mute the NBC broadcasts

Swangard has really improved in that category. Knowing the entire field was his major weakness when he began working for NBC. Now it is a strength. It helps in distance races and also the sprints. He's now able to identify the surging leader in the 60s before they reach the finish line.

She's adequate, not great, but not terrible. I wonder if NBC tells the commentators to dumb things down for a mass audience, because I have to imagine as a former pro she's capable of a bit more insight and depth than she often gives. In terms of former female pros, Hannah England is pretty solid, but it seems like the Brits care more about insightful sporting analysis.
I think Kara is brilliant on air. However her podcast with Des has become tired and unlistenable. I used to think it was fun and edgy but I have come to hate Des’s attitude. It seems like she tries way too hard to have a differing opinion on everything. Listening to Des is like taking a melatonin.

She does a great job. The negative critiques are typically from guys who have never liked her.
I remember when she won bronze at the WC and guys saying it was a weak field (yeah at Worlds).
There are certain people that are hated for some reason and they can do no right to some people.
She does a great job, she's been there so she understands and she calls the races very well.
I find her announcing to be really annoyed during many races. She gets all emotional and excited and starts talking a mile a minute while shouting at us. Slow down and stop yelling for God sakes. Like she’s reporting the end of the world. It’s just a race!

In that the evidence for its effectiveness in treating insomnia is of very poor quality?

Have to agree with this. It is basically platitudes with no analysis or depth. Why are the British announcers so much more insightful? Talk about pace, splits, whether the pace is hot or not, tactics, what it feels like to push or not push, the tension of the experience. Anything beats "he had a lot left in the tank".
This is not a troll thread. Would you guys rather have Dwight Stones and Larry Rawson talking to you about how it looks like they're jogging but if you go to your local high school track and run a lap in 62 seconds that's how fast they're moving?
She's not as good as the BBC guys, but overall she does a very good job.

On her podcast, she frequently mentions how she has to balance her analysis between serious and casual viewers. She will never meet the needs of the letsrun crowd, but that is also not her job.

I think that we, runners, expect too much. A lot of the commentators get bashed on letsrun. I've listened to many, many football commentators and, when I listen with a critical ear, they're as bad or worse.
And they get really stupid when they bring in their "expert" replay analyst.
