That pacer completely messed up the 2 mile milrose race, get that guy out of track
The pacer was Benjamin Allen and he's posted about how the field didn't go with him on Strava. https://strava.app.link/ZAeAyq...

He did his job, Hocker didn't go with him on purpose because he wanted to slow the race down. Pacer kept opening a gap and hocker wouldnt follow.

And credit to him he kept checking rather than tear off into the distance.

If he ran the prescribed pace, he would have opened up a 50 meter lead.
Ben Allen of Empire Elite. Great runner, would have been an amazing pacer if anyone had been interested in actually being paced 😂
he was fine. Hocker slowed down and everyone in the race was cue'ing off him. it's not that the pacer didn't do his job, it's that everyone in the race respects Hocker too much.
Why didn’t the pacer just win the thing?
Allen did a damn good job first 800 and no one wanted to go with him
Then he checked and went back to keep leading them

Incorrect, Hocker didn't go with him because he wasn't fit enough to lead a race from start to finish at WR pace.
Captain Spalding.

How'd that apostrophe get in there?

Yup. Allen posted this comment on Strava:
"I was on pace for the first 800m, but had to adjust when the field didn't commit. Tried to get them back on pace, but nobody really wanted to go for it. Nevertheless, it was a great experience even though the WR didn't fall. Had a ton of fun! I'm looking forward to finally finishing a race coming up (laughing emoji)"

Wrong ^
The pacer we really need to shame was the one for the women's Wannamaker mile. I think the first two 400s were 1:01, 1:06 or something similar.

Who do you think was in the field that would have wanted to follow the pacer? Rather than out of respect for Hocker, a fear of being passed by about 5 guys late in the race was why no one wanted to take that role. Guys like Ingebrigtsen and Fisher are pretty rare.

That white black guy is John Wick. He was the one they sent to pace the bogeymen.
It was one of the best pacing jobs I've ever seen. Most pacers just stick to the lights and run a specific pace no matter what the field is doing. This guy understood his job and slowed down the perfect amount, matched the pace of the guys behind him, then tried to pull them along. It is very difficult to slow down and match the pace of the guys behind you especially when it is only subtle difference.
Another example of poor pacing was Victoria Bossong in the women's 1000. She may have been going the pace someone asked her to go, but she gapped the field immediately and never dropped back. She was so far ahead she wasn't even in the camera shot for a lot of it.
Allen did great. He should have been in the mile field! He likely would’ve won Dr Sander and gotten in had he not been cut off so bad with 200 to go in that race.
