I would like to see her return to top form to challenge Keely, but sadly i think that zhip has sailed.
She also doesnt seem to realise that her only way to a modelling career is through publicity.
Keely is consistently banging out 1:54s now.
Athing has struggled to break 1:59 for years now. They're on completely different tiers. She needs to worry about people like Roisin Willis before she starts thinking about Keely.

Athin’s arrogance caught up with her. She reached the top and believed haphazard training and Kersee’s cocktails would keep her there. She wanted to be Kween while being lazy.
What is going on with this incredible athlete? Will she run again? Does anyone know?
I will say that I was so stoked and highly optimistic about her new beginnings when it was announced that she left Kersee last fall.
But now, idk what to think. Whatever optimism I had is quickly washing away. For someone who hasn't been in good form in years, I really think she should have run indoor. This whole one-or-two-mediocre-rust-busters and then heading straight into USAs hasn't been working for shyt these last couple of years.
Unfortunately, ^this. Heartbreaking to watch a true generational talent struggle so much as a professional. I remember watching her in 2021 thinking that the WR would probably go the following year and she'd be the absolute GOAT in the event by this point. Sadly, that's the brutal reality of sport. Not everyone makes it who is physically capable of doing so. Makes you appreciate those who get to the top and stay there, even more.

Back in 2020-21 there was a YouTube channel by a hurdling teammate of Athing at Texas A&M (whose name I forget), and it was obvious from Athing's many cameos that the vibe on the team was great and Athing was enjoying herself. She won the Olympics that year.
It's not hard to imagine that leaving that environment for the pro life has taken the enjoyment of the sport away, and it's not just a simple solution to say, "join a pro group with lots of training partners", as it's being in dorms and around your friend that makes college different.
Ive said this here many times, but running the 800m just sucks in general. the training is brutal, the races are gutwrenching, its overall just REALLY exhausting mentally to do it again and again and again. no matter how talented you are.
not many 800meter runners last for more than a 3-4 year window. after awhile you get burned out.
as someone that ran the 800m in HS and college I fully understand if shes done.
She's always had the hallmarks of an early bloomer. Elite training in HS where she ran for a club instead of her school. Very physically mature early on. Peaked at 19. Toast. Sage will be taking her record soon.
Rojo always says, “Talent Never Goes away.” However, Athing might have physically peaked already and her body isn’t the same lithe runner as she enters her early twenties.
With the right mentor/coach/group she can get back to gold medal contention for LA 28. She has several years of medal contention left. Don't throw in the towel just yet.
