This past weekend Ole Miss ventured up to the UK indoor meet in Lexington, KY. Cade ran in two events, the 800 where he paced the race though 400 at 53.78 before exiting, and running the third leg of the 4X400 relay where he split a 46.94.
I'm starting to feel bad for the guy. Obviously driven (at least in high school) and made his whole identity about being the fast guy who goes for records. Nobody has their identity shattered like he has and comes out the other side unscathed.
A massive slice of humble pie, like he's been served, could be very useful to him in coaching or the rest of his athletic career or something like business, should he chooses to actually eat it.
Let’s be honest, if cade was truly serious about his running he’d left ole miss long ago bc he signed up to run for van hoy and after his disastrous first year under Smith…. He’s still there.
Not faulting him , bc Oxford/ Ole Miss is a fantastic place to spend 4-5 years but he has had such a beyond underwhelming career. I don’t think he’s ever made an SEC final in indoor or outdoor.
It’s quite sad , but he made a choice just to run whatever he did but stay at a place he obviously loves being at.

Under training only takes you so far. That’s a solid 400m split for his level, but Sahlman has split that fast as well.
If you have two runners that can split under 47 in 400m and one has a 7:36 3k PR and the other runs less than 15 miles a week, it’s clear who will win at 800m.
You should really try to have a little more grace than that. Pretty harsh to judge someone so much by how they were as a high school kid to say that they deserve to have a "failed collegiate career." Do people not get a chance to grow up and mature after their teen years? Is that a fair punishment for someone if their biggest crime is being too full of themselves?

You are just a bundle of good wishes. Why are you even here on a track and field website? This is what athletes do. Trying to be their best through various pathways. You are basically saying why would anyone bother if that is your thought for C. Sahlman. I feel certain these people will be more successful at life than you. Actually, they probably already are.
I don't think because he stayed at Ole Miss means he doesn't want to do well. He is likely on a full ride and entering the transfer portal would likely be a big mistake financially. This board always preaches education first, he is smart to stay where he can get a degree for free.

I wish him luck. If you check out his instagram, he is all about music and performing at different venues. To me, it doesnt seem his focus is running fast.
Dude had high school running by the nuts for a few years there. Was he doping or not is a valid question, but his hubris as a 17 year old caught up to him.
Remarkable athlete who just petered out. I hope he finds success down the line and can leverage his experiences as another poster mentioned.
At worst, he leaves Ole Miss w/a degree and had a fun year cheering on the football team
Your theory is the most common and believable one…it would sound much crazier to argue AGAINST that. Oh well, Cade lost many battles with temptation, “lost his way,” as many young guys do…so now he’s attempting to “find his soul again” and “wash away his past sins” with country music production.
