Not too shabby!
Not too shabby!
It's a 50k in January. It's not a big deal that she "shattered" the course record. Also, it's a trail race and conditions matter and somebody mentioned that the course changed a couple of times.
The course can be respected, but are the fields generally fast? That’s what I’d care about in trying to determine how big a feat it is to get a course record.
Good for her regardless. Very glad to see her running well. I’m sure she has her own gauge of what’s a great performance each time she runs and what isn’t.

As someone who has a literal bronze in the Olympics, I'm sure she's glad to be healthy but knows what a real performance from herself looks like. She won't be walking around gloating about the result but will surely have good momentum moving forward.
It will be more interesting to see if she survives the Black Canyon 100k. That is much more difficult for her, coming from top Marathon running.

This was posted as I was typing – sorry to add a redundant comment, and I agree re: internal gauge of performance.
Maybe people will introduce her as the Bandera CR holder now instead of Olympic marathon bronze medalist?
Seriously though, I’m just glad she seems to be healthy and running again.
Bandera is a moderately competitive ultra with a handful of elite level runners in the 50k and 100k. Course is fairly hilly and rocky, but it is all on hiking or bridal trails in the state natural area. Saturday was also very windy, but nice and cool.
Of course, when you put an internationally competitive marathoner in a 50k race, they are going to crush everyone unless the terrain or altitude is extreme. 4:09 is very solid for that course in those conditions. She beat the top male runner by about 6 minutes.
Who knows what this means as far as whether she can be competitive in a race like Western States or any of the other big ultras. It is a much different animal when you get up to 100k and 100 milers.
Obviously the strategically placed moth-eaten holes in her Satisfy Running t-shirt had a hand in this CR. Kipchoge's macro-mesh Nike tee already looking obsolete.
I was already rolling my eyes at yet another can’t hack it professional road runner deciding to “take on the trails” but then I saw her satisfy gear and immediately wanted to donkey kick her.

It means absolutely nothing for a 100 miler. That's quite a different animal. Another thing is, that all her years of elite training wore her body out. She might have a few ultras in her but we will not see her dominating the ultrarunning scene.
I hope I am wrong but good chance she DNF's her next one.
Also, the men’s CR is 35min faster. So, I wouldn’t put too much stock in her being first overall. Sometimes the women’s fields just out class the men’s. It happens more often in ultras.
Her D-size is bigger than the incels on this board
Awesome. Hooray for Ultras! Best scene in running, friendliest people by far. Those aid stations. Oh yeah!
Satisfy shirt. chest tattoo incoming?
How long until David Roche aggressively congratulates her on social media while sliding into her DM's trying to poach her away from current coaches.
How long until she has a Goodr sponsorship?
How long before we see her sign up for a 200 mile?
Over/under on her being on the Cameron Hanes podcast before Western Sates this year.

The word is "bridle," dear.

She would kick the sh1t out of you on this course. Care to wager?
