Kennsesaw State got: Joseph Mutai (4th in NAIA 2001), Albert Mokaya (20th last year in NAIA), Kennedy Kitur (finalist 5,000 NAIA outdoor
morehouse got: Josiah Lagat- 4:06 mile last year and fifth man in cross championship team
thats offical and all i know
Im in contact with some of the Minot runners. Im almost 100 percent sure they have no kenyans. They have 2 guys from Canada the Tighe brothers. The rest I think are american kids. They are a classy program with a great coach and im sure they would have given Life all they could handle at nats. In my eyes unless some freak of nature happens they will run away with the title. Also I bet BT wins the overall title just my thoughts.
Ah, I did not know they were Canadien. Now it seems a little more clear how an NAIA program I had never heard of comes up with two studs like that (13:48 Penn Relays Champ). Not to say that it is such an impossible thing. There are many coaches at many schools across the country that can potentially produce such results but to get ANY talent at a small college in godforsaken North Dakota has to be down right impossible without looking internationally.
Not to say that the program is not stellar but you aren't likely to see those results with 9:40 kids which is probably what they're typically dealing with.
come on man, no one will beat josephat boit. he was terribly out of shape last year and still got the 5k. supposely hes fit now and when hes fit, hes dangerous. he ran 13:17 in the summer of 2000 at oslo to beat bob kennedy and has also run 5:00 for 2000m.
The Beavers did land one David Kipzittleman a few years back, who was rumored to have thrown the discus 150' and run 17 minutes in the 5K in the same day as a young boy in the small Keyan town of Mandan.

Do your homework... the Tighes were highschool 9:40 kids (B4 Penn, one was 14:27 and the other was 15:45). And as for international, they come from a small farming town in Saskatchewan that is probably closer to North Dakota than South Dakota is.
And as for getting talent in godforsaken ND (without going int'l), check out their roster
http://www.minotstateu.edu/athletics/xcroster.htmCoach Simmons at MSU is a runner's coach ... he's not a talent manger, recruiting 6 Kenyan's and calling them an XC team.
Isn't North Dakota a Canadian Province? ;-)
Ken-ya-saw state got most of the Keyans from Life
Well say what you will about Boit he is very talented. Though I would not look past Brad for the title. Who cares what Boit has run, how has he ran since he has been in the states less then stellar if you ask me.
That previous post of mine didn't really clearly represent my thoughts of being initially amazed by the fact that a small college in Idaho can put out someone like Tigue. THe MInot coach obviously does a hell of a job and basically gets a team of 4:30/9:40 guys but he does get some pretty decent talent. And I agree that the fact that the Tigue's really are a stretch to be put in the same category as recruiting Kenyan's or European's.
I saw they also got a 4:10 miler from Idaho. I guess when I first learned of this program my initial reaction was that coach must be a total genius and then I found out here the Tigue's were Canadian so then things didn't seem so amazing. But on second thought a 4:01 1500/9:17 3000 developing into 13:49 is among the best college developing I've heard of. Especially when you consider all the 9:20 2 milers that never come close to 14:00.
I meant to say "a small college in North Dakota".
I have a hangover.
notice all the kids are from that frozen north plains region: ND, MT, SK, ID, AK
ND, MT
The Minot coach seems to be pretty good, but give credit where its due. The tighe guys where pretty good before the coaching change. One was second at NAIA nationals the year before the coach got there in cross country. Alexis Shargobo of Brevard won with Tighe close behind. Alexis won several NAIA titles (at least 4-5) and has run 3:57 mile in a meet in Atlanta plus 13:57 5K. He was definitely a 14:00 guy before the coach even showed up.
I would conclude Tighe had those same abilities then if he finished second to him at NAtional cross. Maybe just didn't have the opportunity to race against others like he did at Penn and Mt. Sac this year. So props for the coach getting his boys to the big shows- and the opportunity to do well.
The team will be very tough this year and should have a cake walk. It would be great if they could change divisions though since no one (previous distance powers)seems to be in NAIA anymore. They would do well in D II and III. A great task considering its isolation.
Still 14:30 to 13:49 ain't bad
Credit is always due to the athlete, although people are always quick to criticize the coach when things don\'t go right (Wetmore-bashing in relationship to Ritz)
Not a big concern, but the name "TIGHE"
and good luck to boys of Minot State.
