I'm thinking about joining as they seem like the best "serious" option for me right now. Nike track is a good location for me to go to their practices, but I'm a bit worried that it would be frowned upon if I show up in my Pumas. Is this something I should be worried about or is it fine since I'm not a sponsored athlete? If making people who aren't sponsored athletes wear their shoes is part of it, that's gonna bother me.
Some of Bowerman TC race in non Nike spikes, super shoes etc but the general rule at the Nike track (where they train) is to wear Nike shoes and gear. That’s not a Bowerman rule it’s a Nike campus rule. I know people who’ve been yelled at on the track for wearing competitor footwear.
You'd get the same reception as walking across North Carolina's campus wearing a Duke sweatshirt or parking a Chevy in the parking lot of the Ford factory.

Is it about the same as someone asking about wearing their Duke shirt to a workout at UNC's track? If Duke shirts were all I had for some reason, I would do so. Having to buy new shoes makes it way less appealing, I will say.

You're certainly not doing them a favor by joining their club, so take your "less appealing" attitude and hop the fence at Beaverton HS.

Come on, dude. I'm no fan of big brands in general or Nike in particular, but it's not an unreasonable policy to ask that visitors not wear competitor's gear on the private campus of their global HQ. If that's not feasible for you, then why not take your "business" elsewhere instead of acting like they should bend to your whims?

Then just workout somewhere else. There are plenty of places to run around Portland.
You are not going to have only Duke gear unless both your parents are professors at Duke and you went to undergrad there.

I would be paying them
So I’d you’re willing to pay just to run with others then pay a bit more for a pair of Nikes. This isn’t that hard. Wearing Nike rather that New Balance isn’t going to stop you from going to the Olympics.

Obviously having only duke gear is unrealistic, but having only non Nike shoes is realistic

And only this one place in Portland cares. Finding another place to run is pretty realistic.
That is what I do now. It would be nice to have track workouts with a group that could pull me just a bit faster than I'd run in solo workouts, and with the club also including the kit and entry to things like the Bowerman 5k, $150 a year doesn't seem too bad at all. I guess shoes don't last forever, so it wouldn't be that hard to just get Nike shoes next time I need new ones, but having to buy new shoes before I actually need them is frustrating

They're not the only group in Portland. If you use your googler, you'll find at least 2 more groups to do workouts with.

One of them rejected me, and the others are not at good times/days of the week, and especially not at good locations compared to Nike. I guess it's up to me to decide if all that stuff is worth having to buy Nike shoes

You could just buy a pair of Nike shoes and only use them when you work out with the Nike group at their facilities.

You could also try painting over your Puma shoes so it's hard to figure out what brand you are wearing. We have seen many runners that are sponsored by a different shoe company wear painted over Nike shoes without many issues. Some might think it is a weird but you are not getting paid by Puma or Nike. In fact you are the one paying them to participate in their group.
You can try to soften things a bit by buying and wearing some Nike logo clothing.
Doing this will show that yes you are worried about it and believe that wearing Pumas might not be fine.
Or you could just ask if wearing Pumas is ok before you commit.

Bowerman is better off without you
Because I find it annoying to potentially have to wear Nike shoes? I genuinely don't get why I'm getting so much hate here. Was it supposed to be obvious? Is expressing any frustration over inconvenience on the internet bad?
