I think the strike against Hedengren is that her training up to this point has been highly professional which probably limits her short-term upside. But she'll now develop with a team within the NCAA system and assuming she sees it through, will have greater medium- and long-run upside than Fitzgerald. I guess we'll see.
Their differentials between 3k and 5k are about the same (1.9sec). But Jane has a much faster 1500m time (4.04.7 to 4.15). Perhaps Innes just hasn't got into a good 1500m yet, but if that is a true reflection of her speed, then she has nowhere to go - Where Jane does. Being consistent at 5km on the track at a faster level, requires getting down to 4 minutes (or close). The best can run under 4 minutes.
Jane's about five months younger and won an indoor 5000m right off xc training in 14:44, while Innes ran 14:39 in the circuit behind many. With much better mile speed and only one season above the high school level of training and competing, Jane's future looks brighter but no one knows.

the 4:15 was in may of 2024 and she hasn't run one since. Her PB's were 9:07 and 15:26 around that time, and they are now 8:32 and 14:39. Surely you dont think 4:15 is an accurate reflection of her speed today?

She probably could have run a sub 4:10, but probably not a sub 4:05, otherwise she would have run at least one.
Jane should go faster than 8:32 in the next month.
Jane has a week or two to run faster by the same age. Jane also ran her 14:44 indoors. Indoors is harder than outdoors. A solo effort is also harder than being pulled along to a fast time.

Ethiopia has had 13 Juniors Faster Than INNES Fitzgerald's 14:39
