More states to follow! It was beyond time for this to happen. Another thing happening that was long overdue is Handout takers will need to work/volunteer 20 hours a week to get their Little stipend. Good! You want to take taxpayer money then you will work/volunteer and you will eat healthy. America! Get a job or two, Handouts aren't meant to be given forever. Bootstraps!

Isn't the real question "what's wrong with the economic model that we follow that sees programs like SNAP even necessary?" Not a democrat or republican attack as this is 40 plus years in the making.

Very much opposed. If people are gifted money they should be free to buy what they want. Not goverment mandated.

There already is. SNAP is already abused every day.

It’s true. I purchase about $800 of SNAP for $300 each month from a neighbor.

But are they still allowed to eat undercooked meat and get brain worms?

This will be helpful. Most of us do not see the need to inform someone about junk food. However, a large portion of our country does not pay attentuion to warnings and signs of declining health until it is too late.

I tend to avoid the supermarkets for the first couple days of each month, since that is when people who get government assistance receive their checks. And, the stores are somewhat crowded. Unfortuunately , on the few times I was there, I would see carts full of cookies, Doritos, soda and processed foods. Rarely do I see fruits, vegetables or health foods.

This SNAP restriction may help steer those in to a more healthy way of life.

I had this same thought. The poster isn't really wrong. But using the term "gifted" just indicates how ridiculous SNAP is. Money is essentially stolen from hard working, contributing members of society. Then it is handed over to lazy welfare leeches as a gift from the government. It seems reasonable to me that the people who had their money stolen by the government so they could "gift" it (buy votes) should have a say in how that money is used. And its especially a good idea to only allow SNAP benefits for healthy items so we have to pay for less of the welfare recipients healthcare bills on the back end.

With arguments like health care cost, you can mandate every small bit of life and create ever more goverment control.

Perhaps people who get healthcare should not ve allowed Sports because they can get injured. Or not allowed to drive a car because its also higher risk. Or not allowed to cycle.

Just dont provide free healthcare.

40% of snap goes to children. It is weird that people think children should starve in one of the wealthiest countries in the world.

So to you, eating healthy is the same as starving? Nobody is saying the recipients cant eat, just that benefits wont allow them to spend out money on unhealthy sh!t that will eventually kill them. They can have all the fruits, veggies, grains, protein, etc they want. Nobody is starving. But if it helps your agenda to compare using some of their own money on coke and doritos to starving, then have at it.

Of course there will be a black market.

Maybe RFK really wants to help people's health with this move.

But to me it smacks of more let's pick on the poor BS which is business as usual in America but has intensified under the current regime.
