I wonder if there was a deal that they’d wait until he was dead before dropping the ban to keep their legacy intact and to keep people from wondering why the USATF took so long to act on well documented abuse. Was the retirement also part of the deal? it’s shady and doesn’t surprise me
Par for the course. Once a legal verdict is reached, they will move the suspension to permanent status. With USATF, it's never "We should!" but always, "They made us.".
What’s worse is they gave the pedophile Athletic.net guy a temporary suspension. 🙄
When the Center for SafeSport receives a report of criminal charges, they do some preliminary vetting, issue a temporary suspension, and request court documents directly from the court. They wait to issue a permanent ban until they have those documents in hand. The Center issued a permanent ban for Dan on December 22nd. That's in line with their usual procedures and timing across all sports.
Why did they wait for him to pass before banning him and his wife permanently??
I think the better question is why did it take almost two years after the completion of their investigation for public action to be taken?
The US Center for SafeSport has a policy that they don't ban dead people. I am not sure if NGBs are required to follow that same policy, either USATF was unaware of that policy, unaware Art died, or knew both and did not care.
I did a short Twitter thread on this:
Yesterday, @usatf issued lifetime bans to Art & Linda Kranick for emotional and physical misconduct.
Death absolves all sins including thing a teen to a truck to “help with her turnover” and telling one to ignore medical advice if you want to run for the team. Béla Károlyi should be jealous
