This post has inspired me to don a singlet and race cars in shopping mall parking lot tomorrow.

Construction is cheaper at grade, but you have right-of-way costs. When they built the subway in New York, that was over 100 years ago. A lot less development, certainly underground. And labor costs were probably lower. The lines were privately developed and operated until it became financially infeasible, at which point the city/state took them over.

I assume the Toronto line was slow because 1) it has to make stops, unlike the runner, and 2) as the post notes, it’s not getting priority on signals. Hopefully that will change.

I get the point that the runner is trying to make regarding time spent getting from Point A to Point B…but there’s a distinct difference in experience between physically exerting yourself while exposed to the elements, and sitting on your arse while looking out the window/snacking/multitasking on your device.

Definitely safer outside the train than you are inside with the freaks of the city in there on a free-ride.

Harambe is a very simple man, a man who worships govt corruption at a level that few ever achieve. If you were to ask him how to calculate $2 Billion in labor costs (if it is assumed that is the bulk of the expense as he claims), he wouldn't know how to take the first step towards that calculation. I'll do some quick math for him.

$2,000,000,000 labor. $50/hr labor. 40,000,000 labor hours. If you had each guy on a 40 hour work week, you'd have 1,000,000 labor weeks. That could be 10,000 men working for 100 weeks each to complete the job for $2 Billion. Think it costs that much in labor Harambe or do you think most of the cost goes into your beloved politician's pockets?

The newest line in Minneapolis and its suburbs is going to cost a bit more than that is is a billion over budget. It's absolutely insane.
