Courtney Dauwalter narrowly misses OTQ time at CIM. Really good performance from her. I bet if she was wearing a better shoe than a Salomon she would’ve got it.

I saw an amusing video clip where she is surrounded by athletes in buns, AlphaFlys, $300 worth of Tracksmith and Saysky gear, sponsor kit, etc. and Courtney's rolling in her trademarked short sleeve tee and basketball length shorts looking like a Crossfitter that entered on a lark. I wonder how many of these runners had no idea who she is and blew up because they weren't going to get beat by some local gym rat?

Literally zero.
Bummer. Courtney is awesome. Next time! Nachos for everybody!
Hardly "narrowly missing."
Holy carbon plated tailwind, this was a narrow miss?
marketing at it's finest. fun fact, she wasn't even close.

Less than 2 minutes from an Olympic qualifier in the marathon isn’t narrow? You, good sir, win Moron of the Year!

Blaming the shoes is wild work considering the male overall winner was wearing the same shoes. 😂

Narrow miss is the 4 women who missed it by less than 9 seconds, not the trail runner with goofy shorts who was 2 minutes off. 16 women were between hitting the qualifying and Courtney. Take the goodrs off jello shot.

That’s not a slow time? What am I missing?
Kudos to Courtney for trying something new. She’s at a place in her career that she has nothing to prove to anyone. Shes the GOAT of ultra women’s running and no matter who surpasses her or her records, she will always at minimum, be on the mt Rushmore of greatest ultra runners ever. Dope of her to do new things, be marketable as an athlete, and not be afraid to “lose”.

Course is certainly eligible. Granted it is probably the fastest one in the US that is for an OTQ attempt (best weather conditions, technically is net downhill despite some rollers, and the competition pacing/packs for an OTQ makes it a #1 qualifier venue nowadays).
As I've always said: There is a high correlation with road marathon times/fitness/potential and top ultra runners (even for mountain 100-milers).
Sure, the very fastest marathoners may not always be the best 100-mile ultra-trail runners (and especially not great at technical trails), but more often than not they will be around OTQ level of fitness or faster at least.
Tom Evans. Jim Walmsley. Ruth Croft. and now Courtney. All can crush UTMB and still run pretty dang fast at a marathon. I'm sure Katie Schide could probably also run in the 2:30s...
How to transition? Have good "Variable Running Economy" (think like gear shifting ability and staying relatively economical on changing terrain at different pace ranges). Impressive as Courtney didn't have a ton of time coming off of a tough UTMB and another marathon just a few months ago...
She cute
That Salomon shoe is a prototype road racer that is more than likely made of the same foams as any other top-end offering. Incidentally, Futsum Z. was wearing the same shoe and won the men's race. So I don't think the shoes are the problem.

I have to agree.
If you are within two miles and it is still possible, and you miss it by seconds, or blow up a bit (because you totally go for it) and miss it by 45 seconds, then I would call it a narrow miss.
If you know with several miles to go that you have zero chance, then the miss was not narrow. The performance can be good, or even great, but you did not narrowly miss it.
Does this help any ultra runners realize that she isn't the best athlete in the world?

I don't think any real ultra runner has ever said this.
