Fastest marathon by a triathlete?
Fastest marathon by a triathlete?
I suspect he wants to do an unprecedented double. He won't ever win the Olympic marathon but he could qualify in both.
2:11:08 in London to 2:06:38 in Valencia is a crazy improvement

Never say never. He went from 2:11 to 2:06 under non-ideal weather, I wouldn't be surprised if he drops a 2:03-04 on a perfect day and that may be good enough for him to win a Bronze, especially if the weather is not ideal.
Yep, you can see with his triathlon experience that he’d feel much more comfortable in a non-time trial race like the Paris course this year. He knows about sitting in packs, tactically racing and making the right moves - he went from 17th to 7th in 3k today.
id love to see him race Boston

Doing it in New Balance shoes as well. It's funny as reviews always describe NB race shoes as being mid to back of the pack for racing shoes. Just shows how much is down to the runner and just how good even the "slower" supershoes are.
of course he could win. it is easier than a major or other big races with only 3 of each nation.
The most incredible marathon performance I can remember. Incredible talent and even more impressive work ethic. So happy for Alex and his team..
this performance makes him the #2 all time UK marathoner, 8 seconds ahead of Emile Cairess' pb from london
But...but...he's a triathlete? He wastes a bunch of time bike riding and swimming. That makes you slow and causes injuries. Triathletes are wannabes! If they were any good at running then they would just run! My 2:34 marathon is pure!!! I didn't use any cross training tricks and hacks!!! He's probably on dope that we don't know about!!! Make this make sense!!!

I’m not sure what his plans are for 2026. Keep running faster? How fast would he be in a 70.3?
Then again, Wilde can run a 27:40 and is stronger on the bike
The long course triathlon is not a joke like it was a few years ago
What's his training like?
Obviously doping (just like Hunter Bell). No one makes that kind of improvement without nefarious aid. We all know that the Brits do not have a worthwhile anti-doping program. If theirs was as strict as Kenya (it isn't) just as many would be caught doping as do Kenyans.
Why is it that Americans (the WASP kind anyway) are the only honest athletes in the world? (Shelby was railroaded). All the other countries cheat to take away scholarships and world medals from more deserving Americans.
Crazy to think only 4 Americans (Matz, Khalid, Rupp, Hall) in history are faster than him.
this is insane
Btw - his Coros predicted
2:05:46
With a bit cooler conditions he could have done it?

Hell he probably could have done it in Puma Fast R3s

So an athlete who fails a drug test is clean and was railroaded but ones who turn in great performances and don't fail drug tests are cheaters. Thanks for clearing that up.
Massive engine and cardio gains from years of being a triathlete, specifically cycling/swim then you run.
That's incredible considering how much upper body muscle he has to carry for swimming. Those of us who used to make fun of triathletes just went home devastated!
