While in the middle of a run yesterday, I was thinking that I could really use some EPO or steroids to help me get through my summer base training. And since I don't have any races planned for a while, there is no chance that I would get caught. I have no intentions of actually taking any PEDs, but it got me thinking about the elite runners and whether they get tested in the offseason.
Is there any type of offseason testing for someone like Bekele, Tergat, or Geb? I'm sure the benefits of taking EPO and other PEDs would be greatest during the racing season, but taking them in the offseason must also help because it could enable someone to get through a huge volume of training that they otherwise could not handle, and thus be stronger during racing season.
Does anyone know if there is random testing implemented throughout the year for the world's best runners?
