That's elite. Have you seen a correlation between your easy pace and your race pace?
Thanks for the compliment but I don't consider that elite. I was in Atlanta at the time and there were probably 50 guys in town faster than me.
It seems like my easy pace is roughly 1:30 slower than my race pace, even as I get older. But I don't think that making an effort to run faster on the easy days will make your race pace faster. It's the other way around. It's the work you put in on your hard days that makes both your easy pace and race pace faster.
I'm not sure actually, 8 - 9 min per mile feel basically the same aerobically provided I'm warmed up enough, so how cooked my legs are decide how fast I go. I've been experimenting with manually trying to increase my pace after a few miles into an easy run, not sure it's doing any good. Also I made a big fitness jump over the past few months, so I haven't had time to see how my race pace correlates to my easy pace(except I'm doing my easy runs slower because more consistency and workouts), plus it's pretty hot where I live. I'll be able to better judge come spring .

I agree. Speedwork is the only thing that really helps me run faster. I have noticed its effects on both my race times and on my easy runs, though. I was wondering if there is a correlation between easy paces and race paces, since there is no causative relationship.
usually around 7:20 avg for easy days but can range from 6:50 -8 min pace depending on the path I'm running on. I just race a 1:16 half so about 5:50 pace per mile. I also just ran a 2:39 marathon as well...for shorter stuff I'm around a 16:25 5k and 4:45 mile.
What is your easy pace for long runs or short, easy runs? What was your last race pace for whatever race you did?
Age: 43 Years Old Easy Pace: 6:45 (During My Racing Days) Last Serious Race: 10,000m on the Track in 29:44 (’06) Pace: 4:47.11 Kilometer: 2:58.40

Believe it or not I had planned on running post college training all summer for it and sadly it did not workout. Was going to run for the Hanon’s Brooks Distance Project. Kevin and Keith advised me that a college education is more important than running and at the time I had not completed my schooling. I wound up racing a few road races but nothing super serious. Never really picked it back up but I have completed not only my bachelor’s but 3 master’s and the prerequisites for a PhD. I choose to pursue military instead of running back in 2007. Ironically, I live and work in Michigan now and still run into Keven and Keith Hanson as they live in my area and consider them friends. They are also the supplier for my daughters Cross Country Team’s High School. Best advice I ever got and because of people like them telling me to focus on something other than running I have a good life today.
My easy pace for my best years of running tended to average around 7:30 per mile. It was very common for me to go as slow as 8:30 on days when I was tired/sore/bad weather, etc. It was pretty rare but sometimes I'd get down to 6:30ish on easy days if I was feeling great and the weather was nice, but those days were few and far between.
I ran 1:53, 4:15, 15:55, and a 1:16 half, all around this time period.
