Emile Cairess: Adidas -> Nike ??

    Alex Yee posted some photos on Instagram of recent work with Phil Sesemann and Emile Cairess. Emile notably on two occasions wearing Nike shoes in both a photo and video.

    Since Jan 2024 Emile has:
    - Placed 4th at OLY Marathon
    - Ran 2:06:46 (PR) for 3rd at London
    - 60:01 HM (PR) at Napoli City Half
    - Won British 10,000m Champs
    - DNF'd Tokyo WC Marathon

    He's easily the best prospect the UK has to offer, so I'm lost as to if Adidas would have low balled him on a contract renewal or what could have happened to part ways?

    Emile's Instagram bio & last post (9w ago) both still show Adidas, so it must be a recent change

    It is transfer season, so timing make sense, but big move!

    He has as much upside as Mantz imo, and arguably a better CV (atleast before Mantz AR).

    I know it's hard to tell, but I got the impression Emile liked Adidas products too. He often raced in Takumi Sen instead of Adiós Pro before the Evo, which suggests he atleast has an opinion and preference. Nike must have come in hard. If you think about it, their current representation in mens British distance running is pretty poor, so they definitely had room.

    Cairess is wearing Adidas top and Nike shoes in the photo. Hmm, seems risky for his sponsors.

    He has a lot of upside, but he scratches quite a lot of races. Could be that Adidas wanted to see him more on the start line of major marathons and half marathons

    I believe with Canova, he is all in on target races. If he's not on the start line 100%, then he isn't on it.

    Yeh, some sponsors might not like that, and he is quiet in socials. Modern day I guess

    Well spotted. If he has signed with Nike though, why isn't he in full Nike gear? I very much doubt they want him wearing Adidas jackets and other apparel...

    I'll be very interested to know what's happened

    Because he was dropped by adidas and is unsponsored.

    There is no way Adidas dropped Emile, he is by far the best British marathon runner at the moment with huge potentital. Even without his social presence, the people love him. Considering how he's been training with Jakob and Algrem, I'm sure he was just waiting for his adidas contract to end but the Nike move could've been in the pipeline for a while!

    That was my worry. I hope he's got a new deal though, he's a great athlete and I want to see him break Mo Farah's British half marathon record at the very least

    I imagine he is still under contract with Adidas (until end of November or something) so still wears their kit and has Adidas in his bio, but if he is just counting down to clock before joining Nike then why not start wearing their shoes now. No point in waiting to figure out your rotation, get used to the new shoes and find hat works for you.

    What are Adidas going to do really? It wasn't his own post, and he can say he is still wearing their kit.
