It's a 5 1/2 hour drive, which is a lot for me. It would be fun to meet the Letsrun crew, but (a) cross country isn't so spectator friendly and (b) some runners, like Grant Fisher, evidently do not think this event is that big a deal.

In general, it's a good bet to spend your money on experiences instead of things. Memories gain value over time, whereas things depreciate in value.
Also, you have an opportunity to do something pro-social. I don't know who you mean by "the Letsrun crew," but if you mean the people who run this site, that's an opportunity that most people here will never get. You'll have a story to tell, no matter what.
I’m a bit wary of meeting fellow trolls
Do it, but make a vacation of it. Run the club race the following day (you need a usatf membership, but you can run unattached). Go to the state parks, see manatees, go to the beach.
You can run the community race the same day without a USATF membership.

Wait, WHAT?! Somebody delete that post, STAT! Ignore the troll, there is no "community race. Haha, nice one. If you want to race, get a USATF membership and run the club race. Also, be sure to buy it before the end of 2025 so it expires on December 31st and you need to buy a second one to race 10 days later in January. The only thing better than one USATF membership is TWO USATF memberships! And thank you for paying for my family vacation to Disney World in a few weeks!

As far as cross country courses go, Apalachee is really very spectator friendly. There's a nice cut-through in the woods that takes you from the opening straight to the 2km mark on the crushed shell path. In a 10K race that gives you ~8 chances to see the runners pass by and still see the start/finish.
Only 5.5 hours driving? That's easy! what are yo waiting for?
DO IT !!! The last time the World CC Champs were held in the US was 1992 in Boston. Unless you want to wait another 30+ years to come around again

You should go for it while I stand over here and ask myself the same question about a 13-hour drive

Don't go to North Florida in January expecting good beach weather. Average January high in Tallahassee is only 64. On Jan 10 this year, the high was only 59 with a low of 34. You're better off packing a sweater than a swimsuit for that time of year.

It's a chance to see the greatest runners in the world. It might just change your perspective on a few things. Go early. Watch them warmup. See what their prerace demeanor is.
Some good advice about experiences vs things given here.. I dont know your age, motivation, other previous experiences, family commitments etc...but if you are younger without a lot of responsibility to others, now is the time to get started. It makes it a lot easier to figure out how to do it later when you have family responsibilities. You'll be more motivated and have the ability to plan further ahead with the option to change your mind if you want to. Don't be afraid to work extra and save/budget. As far as if someone like Fisher decides to not compete.. don't let that stop you. Others will perform and the total experience will generally be not regrettable. It will give you motivation to seek the next experience and you can decide how selective you want to be with more clarity. I chose a long time ago to be part of the athletics community as an athlete, coach and spectator all of which overlapped through the whole experience. Ive seen a lot up close and glad I did. Best wishes.

I attended the Marathon Olympic Trials in Orlando and wore my LetsRun t-shirt. Not one person approached me, so not sure how the well the 'meet the Let'sRun crew' will go. I did meet Rojo some years back when NCAA indoors was in Birmingham, but we had been emailing an advance because of an article I had published in runners world.
There are a lot of motels in Tallahassee that are beyond miserable, so have a few laughs from reading the reviews and avoid those places!

It’s up to you. People go on road trips all the time without consulting with anyone. My son and I drove 8 hours to watch a Charger game and just the two of us made the decision as to whether to go or not. I wanted to fly, but he wanted to drive, so that’s what we did.
Go and watch. 100% worth that drive.

As has been the case for decades, any USATF membership obtained after November 1 is good through the end of the following year.

Someone who is clueless about north Florida...
