Coach Hart retired in 2005 and was was known as one of the world's past 400m coaches. He was 90.
Best known athlete was of course, Michael Johnson but one won three straight Olympic 400m titles with the addition of Jeremy Wariner after Johnson retired. Darold Williamson One gold in the 4x4 with Wariner 2004.
Sanya Richards won gold in London in London 2012, Greg Haughton won a bronze for Jamaica in 2000.
RIP, Coach Hart. He was one of the great ones and the best 400m coach out there for a long time.
This man deserves more attention. He was clearly a great coach. RIP Clyde Hart.
Sad news. I've been thinking about him a lot since rojo called Hoey's split with JR the worst coaching decision ever. I would give that award to Jeremy Wariner.

This man was a genius in the sport and the realm of track and field. He had a level of understanding far ahead of the time in which he formulated and developed it. He paired it with an outstanding ability to work with both college student athletes and professionals. Truly one of the greatest ever.
Clyde Hart died this year. Grand Slam Track died this year. Michael Johnson's reputation died this year.
Michael Johnson is having a bad year.

A coach I admire once told me that if Clyde Hart was allowed to coach the US relay squads they would always win gold. I may agree.

I met him at a clinic years ago in Orlando. He told me about teaching and coaching at Little Rock Central during the late 1950’s when the school was at the center of racial strife. Interesting man for sure. He was deeply respected for more than just his athletes’ performances. True gentleman. RIP

We were honored to interview Coach earlier this year. Got a chance to talk about Little Rock, how he got to Baylor, the 100yd school record he stills holds, and so much more. This guy lived a LEGENDARY servant leadership life.

I stole quite a few things from him for my 400/800m group. We never managed the same density of his training blocks, but it helped take me out of the "distance coach" mindset for those truly fast athletes that doing mileage just wasn't the most productive way to drive improvement or recover.
