I haven't had a drink for a month -- but can't assess the effect on running since I'm on the DL. One thing I do observe is consistent morning wood at age 70. . .

I gave it a half@ss effort after my running went into the toilet... backstory, drink wine 3-4 x week with dinner, figured I could cut it out in October, cut some calories, maybe improve my running. Well, running did not improve for me. Three weeks of just being like back in college/early adult had some of the worst runs of the year. Just horrendous heart rate, and breathing. My sleeping was the craziest part. Yes, I felt better to sleep but would wake up at 2am almost every night with every single problem to solve in my head.
Long story short, going back to a balanced life. Train hard, drink when I'd like, just not over-analyze life. I'm approaching 50 and still run close to 16:45 for 5000m, so will just do what I'm doing.. the biggest threat to me is not drinking, it's all my competition on TRT, etc.

16:45 at nearly 50? Wow, that is solid. I haven’t had a drink in nearly 3 years but haven’t noticed any difference in my running. But, my stopping drinking happened to coincide with me getting older—about your age—which maybe has something to do with seeing no difference? I am not sure ….maybe I need to get a script for TRT….
