I respect Rojo’s input. Could this shutdown lasts for years? If yes, what will happen?
The poor will be hurt first in a meaningful way. They will rise up and raid the mansions of the rich. It will probably start in the suburbs of Baltimore.

Rojo will lock himself and his family in the garage for protection and then be unable to figure out how to get out of the garage when the rabid mob has finished looting his house
If the US government never reopens, we will have to go to Mexico, Canada, other places that are still countries.
The US will become a sort of no-mans-land ruled by post-apocalyptic warlords. Some of them will eventually figure out how to set off the nukes. Wherever you end up, build a fallout shelter

The OP asked rojo, a Princeton-educated economics major, not you
Other than traveling, I don’t really care if the government never reopens. My job and my life does not rely on the federal government. My company manages assets for large state pensions, but that’s not federal. The biggest impact in my life will be air travel. I wouldn’t be able to travel anymore. I have a trip to Peru and Chile in December so they better get it sorted out by then.

The only thing worse than a red hat is a selfish libertarian. Good luck to you if the government (ie country) falls apart. I'll be the one laughing at you as you lay, pantsed, on the road side while hobos take your last cash and punch your teeth out.
47% on Polymarket are betting it won't reopen until after Nov 16.
Food stamps stop on Nov 1. Dem voters likely to riot.
You mean all of the red state red hats on the dole right? For every rich right winger like jojo there are filthy hoards of toothless medicaid-gobbling red state trash who are soon to be scu-rewed by the Builder of Golden Ballrooms.
Interesting question. According to Brookings, non-essential services are impacted. If those on govt. subsidies are starving, states and communities will step up. On the other hand, national parks, which require passes, will probably be in jeopardy. So it is likely that it will become more difficult to see a geyser.
democrats could reopen it at any time. The shutdown is on their hands.
Yep, republicans are coming to the table with reasonable offers and dems seem to enjoy the human suffering. Oh well, I haven't noticed a single difference in my life. Like the poster above, I rely on the federal government for very little. State governments are still functioning. As far as im concerned, we can keep the government shut down and save a lot of money. Big government dems really hate the shutdown because it shows how worthless the federal government is for most self reliant people who dont rely on welfare as a lifestyle
