Why would Democrats refuse to pass a clean continuing resolution? Open government and argue policy without impacting the livelihood of these employees.
I thought the whole chainsaw thing (DOGE) was to get rid of ALL government workers. To privatize the government. So why should they get paid? Just fire them all. Trump doesn't need the government, he can hire anyone he likes as contract workers - and they should all be MAGA anyway.

do you think the thousands of folks you used this shutdown to fire characterize what's happened as a "clean CR" that changes nothing?
the poorly led dems do you a favor by making this about health care subsidies. you create a neverending series of debt ceiling fights every few months that you then try to use as leverage. it's obnoxious.
and as trump admitted, it's about cutting dem programs, not actually reducing any deficit. every fiscal opportunity you seem to increase spending on GOP priorities and actually increase debt.
you know what would solve this in a hurry? in a shutdown congress doesn't get paid either. johnson can't be bothered calling the house into session anyway. so you don't get paid any more than some furloughed flunkie at Department of Education.

Are you saying Democrats are just doing Republicans a favor and giving them what they want? Interesting take given their desire to balloon the size of government.

The Democrats don't believe the Republicans will actually negotiate on the health care cost issue if a clean CR is passed. This is the only time they have any leverage.

Why are Republicans trying to kick millions of Americans off health insurance? We can afford huge tax cuts. We've got money for Argentina. We've got money for Qatari military facilities. We've got money for Israel. We've got money for ICE. We've got money for drastic White House renovations. We've got money for private jets for Kristi Gnome.
Dems are offering Republicans an easy political win (preventing their constituents' health care costs from spiking dramatically) and they are refusing because... well, they just want people to suffer, I guess.
Earlier this year, democrats voted to reopen the government with the expectation that republicans will negotiate on other policies afterwards. They did not. Dems learned republicans can’t be trusted. They aren’t falling for that again. Anyways, I think we should just keep the government shutdown until January 2029. Let the next democrat president handle things like a real leader.

None of those things you listed cost money, they are loans or approvals of weapons sales. These healthcare subsidies didn't even exist until 2021 and go towards "early retiriees" who don't need it. Complete waste of money.

And I thought the fiscal responsible Republicans are in power.

oh, i beg to differ. the dems are doing everyone a favor by broaching this issue now before the higher premiums kick in. as a pol said on one of the sunday shows in recent weeks, if the dems just waited, the premiums would go ahead and spike, and the pitchfork brigade of stunned employers and dumped employees would be doing their work for them. the dems would also have leverage at that point.
but to do that you have to be willing to let people suffer to "get it."
i personally think the primary complaint should be structural. it does this country no good to have this stupid p*ssing match every few months, and it seems intended for use as partisan leverage rather than good policy or sincere fiscal control.

it's a bait and switch. in past elections it would be the national debt. in this election it was inflation. you pretend like you care about that issue to chase election.
the GOP then, every time they win, actually does a tax cut, a defense/ICE budget INCREASE, and trims social spending. the net effect is the debt gets worse because the tax cut hacks revenue down and we go even further in the red regardless of the rest of the process.
let's be honest what the game here. they are trying to hack away at government including popular health insurance subsidies. they know this stuff is a financial dog for the worker and an election loser, so they are then trying to redistrict their way towards having any chance in 2 years after all the radical crap they have pulled. having done unpopular things, they want to pick their own voters.
in short, they are trying to use a window before they get creamed at the midterms, to chop government. i don't think they care about good policy. it's tax cuts and hate government. it's gone way too far and if they couldn't redistrict their way out of consequences, they'd get smashed.
if they lose, it will either be reversed by congress or we'll watch trump endlessly veto what he can.
