With a 5k PB only 5 seconds slower than the LRC picked favorites, it would seem the younger runner has the much bigger upside of potential improvement over the last 6 months than the 2 Kenyans. She was already better than both at the mile and today proved she will have no problem on 6k cross courses and racing style.
If Doris Lemngole is back and healthy - she has to be the favorite. She is a world class runner. Jane is amazing and should get top 5. But she isn't the favorite and not competing for Golds at Worlds.

According to the IAAF scoring tables, Doris' 8:58 steeple is the equivalent of a 14:16 5k. yes they are a different class of runner right now as exciting as Jane was yesterday.
Not a legit conversion, unless you think Frerichs was a 14:15 runner.
the point isn't that she is actually a 14:16 runner. The point is that she is much better than a 14:52 runner right now. She only ran 1 5k outdoors at SEC championships and that was run to win not for a time. So we dont have a 5k showing her improved fitness from a season where she lowered her steeple PB by 17 seconds and got 5th in the world.

Maybe, but you can improve a lot in the steeple without getting a lot fitter at flat events, and my point is the steeple on the women's side is vastly below the flat events in terms of depth.
I so agree Doris is the best bet to beat her, but the potential improvement from 18-19 is higher than over aged 22-23, at least when the teenager actually takes to collegiate running immediately, which appears to be the case for Jane. It's all just guesswork now, and I have no inside knowledge, but I have a suspicion they've figured something out with her development that has her ready for bigger jumps than we would normally see. Or I'm just drinking the kool aid. We'll see.
All fair as it is tough to ignore precedent for freshmen, and I don't think anyone would have predicted the significant jump she's made since her April 14:57. But I don't think we've seen her unleash yet
Hedengren is a total destroyer. Best I've ever seen at 18 (and now,19). She may not be the favorite at Nats, but she's just a freshman. They had better get her now.

Lemngole will be 24 in a couple of months.
There’s a good chamce she might be a couple of years older than 24 already.
