pretty good considering he's almost 40 and his pr is 2:06. glad he finally got a good run in

Agreed, if can he repeat the sub 2:10 when he turns 40 the masters american record is his.
how does this compare to his times from past 5 years of thonning?
Considering his age and what he has been through with major injuries, his performance is excellent. His commitment to running is second to none.

Didn't Kipchoge run 2:01 at an official 37, almost 38? And he was probably a year or two older?
Nice to see the guy have a solid race. He’s been through a lot but clearly loves running/racing. Talent does go away. Hoping he has a few more good ones in him.
Also sounds like it wasn't an A+ buildup, so hoping there's some room to keep improving on it. Have become a lot bigger fan of his over the last few years - his interviews were always weirdly tense when with Salazar, and now that he's opening up more it's always interesting to hear how analytical and thoughtful he is

Props to Galen. Very happy for him. One of the true US distance GOATs
comparison is a thief of joy
right around what I thought he would run - I hope he can stay healthy and get a really good buildup in for his next marathon.
Need the people that were predicting well over 2:10 because he raced on tired legs in his marathon build to join the conversation. Guess he was using those races as tune-ups
OFF THE JUICE
Wow! I was hoping for a sub-2:10 for the old man, but I was expecting 2:12+. Rupp is nothing if not clutch.
2:09 at age 39 would be a great way to retire. But he can probably improve on this time with another healthy training cycle. And he probably loves running to much to quit while he can still earn decent money.

Meh, yes he’s opened up more but all it does is show how anti-social he is. He still always acts annoyed he’s being interviewed and can’t help but give sassy answers.
I think he finally dumped Mike Smith

Agreed, he's clearly a student of the sport. If/when he retires from elite competition someday, I hope someone grabs him as a regular commentator. From the few occasions he's done it, he does an excellent job of providing great insights and is actually pleasant to listen to.
For now, glad to see him post something solid and I love that he has the Bekele attitude as he approaches 40, not content to be one of the best masters runners, but still wanting to be one of the best runners, period.
I’ve actually come to appreciate how tight lipped Rupp is. With lots of other aging pros going through injuries or bad races, it’s just a constant stream of sob stories and excuses on social media. Through both the highs and the lows, Rupp just keeps his mouth shut and lets the performances speak for themselves.
Agree, when the questions aren’t constantly about Salazar, he gives a pretty good interview. And the few times he’s done race commentary, they were actually really good.
