The fastest time on a record-eligible course by a man not of recent African ancestry or PED allegations is 2:04:56. That seems very doable. 2:05:38 seems like a done deal for me.

Yes, there’s a chance if he goes through halfway right at 1:02:00 and is having a great day and the weather cooperates.
But, I tend to think he’ll fade to somewhere between, let’s say, 2:04:27 and 2:04:57. The AR is the primary goal. No need to run 2:03 unless he’s just totally on and trying to get the win.

I literally think his ceiling is 2:06 flat. I don't think he will be a challenge at the front, where the winner will just crack 2:04. Galen Rupp will be about 2:08 flat.

He’s already run 2:05:08 this year at Boston, a mere 23 seconds back of the winner who ran 2:02 at Chicago just last year. There was a slight headwind at Boston and the late hills make it a fair test. Mantz is a 2:05 guy looking to become a 2:04 guy.
