Ryan Craven's xc video game has a new version. The virtual world goes into the real world as you can now race the game Detweiler Park course - home of the Illinois State meet.
Spread the word. We've always thought it was good for the sport to have a video game so young guys and girls can view the sport as legitimate and fun. All of the big popular sports have video games - so why not XC?
When I was a kid, I LOVED playing KONAMI's "TRACK & FIELD".

The problem with Athletics Videogames: it's all about physical performance. Same for Swimming.
There are no tactics. No strategy. It's not like Soccer, Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Handball, Tennis... and even most of these sports don't have decent Video games. No good Volleyball videogame. Same for Handball.
In the end, it's all about spamming the buttons as fast as you can. Sometimes they ask for you do it in a cordinated manner, but that's it.
I enjoyed playing these games as a kid as well, but I would always get blisters.
The Beijing summer Olympics game for the PlayStation had the 800m event and it was the closest thing to the best distance running video game I have ever played.

But did you use a comb to hack your button presses when you played "Track & Field?" We need to know your level of committment...
(Placing my quarter on the ledge that displays the game title and awaiting an answer.)
Have you even tried this game lol? If you spam buttons you’ll be out front in no man’s land and quickly lose all your stamina. The whole point is drafting and strategicly conserving your stamina.
How about a cross country coaching video game where you're the coach of a high school team and your best runner is a bro who doesn't really like running and you have to convince him it's a great sport and actually really fun?

Another scenario could be that you have 4 really great runners, but your 5th runner is a huge pus$y but you can't tell him that because he's 17. You have a super freshmen who is almost as good so you're praying that the frosh improves by the end of the season enough so that you can trophy at state, but first you have to decide whether it makes sense to run 5x800m or 6x800m this week (the boys have been looking tired).

The older versions of video games were much simpler but in many ways better. Yet I sold one for about $9.00 that is worth about $200 today.
