Went to buy a pair of Adios Pro 4 online from Adidas and saw they were factoring in $30 tax on top of the $250 price. I've never seen sales tax charged on shoes before.
Looked up a pair of Saucony Endorphins online and no tax. Adidas is obviously a German company and Saucony is American, but I assume both brands manufacturer their items in Asia or wherever.
Looked it up and Adidas is charging 12% tax to cover cost of the Trump tariffs.

Yeah, I hear you. It's bad enough shelling out $250, but I understand that is the current price of a top tier carbon racer. But, I just couldn't pull the trigger on it now seeing it at $285 with the $30 tax and $5 shipping. It's just too much, and not what it was just a couple months ago.
That is what Americans voted for. You can be pleased that some of that $30 goes to fund the activities of ICE if you like.

I paid $55 for the streak xc and I think 70 for the brooks t3 when I bought my first racing flats in college.
didn't ritz run 60 flat in the half champs back in the day in the streak xc?
if op is in the US then can still order the Pro 4 for $250 from runningwarehouse. at least for the time being. interesting to see if that changes when they have to replace stock.
I was looking at buying a single speed hardtail with no suspension last year, the Kona Unit. It was $999 last year. $1299 now. The model with gears, the Unit X, was $1399 last year and is $1799 now. Kona mentions that the price includes tariffs.
Retailers aren’t charging any tariffs, you can buy them at several stores now.
Or buy VF4s. I found some already on sale for $181.

The Tariffs, and Tariffs alone, created this vast wealth for our Country. Then we switched over to Income Tax. We were never so wealthy as during this period. Tariffs will pay off our debt and, MAKE AMERICA WEALTHY AGAIN!
I guarantee you Adidas is making insane margins on this shoe and the tariff excuse is so the consumer doesn't impact their bottom line goals. The manufacturing cost on this shoe all is is no more than $35-$45 USD and that includes the completed shoe in packaging. If Adidas is really doing this in the exit price shame on them especially the fact they turned over $20Bn last year and up double digit increase in revenue. Its a great shoe but shame on them for passing on their margin goals to the consumer.

Adidas just had the pro 4 for $150 not even a week and a half ago.
I didn't work for adidas, but I have worked for a running shoe company. If a shoe sells for $250, it likely costs $50 to produce (and import at that cost). If they were simply trying to cover a 33% increase from tariffs, closer to $15 would do it.
