I doubt he considered it a race, he probably was going for an easy run that day, saw there was a race that day, decided why not run with the people? and have Water Stations available along the way.

His bib number was #1 so I don't think it was a day of decision. I'm surprised Ghost1 hasn't posted about wonderful a performance this is.
At first glance, Brian Kipchumba’s runner-up finish at the 2025 Geneva Half Marathon seemed like a routine result in another Kenyan-dominated road race.
The guy still ran 1:03 this year for a half. At least he can still enjoy the sport when it might be evident that he wont get back to the 59 low performance of his past. I know a lot of guys that are unable to enjoy it without winning every race they are in. In my prime I was a 29:05 10,000m and that year I was just blazing 4:00.12 for the mile. 28:57 for a road 10K, 13:56 road 5k. Every Race ran 5:05 for a 2000m. I thought I was going to run 3:55 in the next season. Well a small tweak behind my knee, slowed me to 4:11 and 14:37. I slowed in other races was unable to get back to my original form and lost interest. At least he still has interest in it.
I would love Wanders to get back to his 2019 best form (3:39/7:47/13:13/27:17/59:13), but his body is not cooperating. He's still training well and can run 3:10-3:20 pace (per km) all day, but can no longer sustain 2:50 pace for long. His thin, fragile body is tired.

Running and French language rap music are Julien's principal interests. He's fully invested in Iten, Kenya. Has a chalet there, his wife, his restaurant (Midland hotel). He visits Switzerland every year, but does not like the aggressive vibe in modern Europe.
Been there, done that, in Iten, and went to his restaurant daily.
The course was slow, as the top two guys are 1:02:00 runners. Course is 3 minutes slow. So Julien's equivalent effort is 1:06:00. He could probably run 1:06:0+1:06:00 = 2:12:00 right now.

It was too hot based on press article - temperature at mid 80s. Some critics addressed to organizer for not enough water available. Unusual amount of runners collapsed and sent to hospital.
Der diesjährige Greifenseelauf verlangte den Läufer aufgrund der hohen Temperaturen alles ab. Den Veranstaltern wird nun vorgeworfen, man sei nicht darauf vorbereitet gewesen.
