My girlfriend seems to think she is on the same level as me, and it honestly kind of pisses me off. I know that could come off as narcissistic, but it's true. I am smarter than her and have made objectively way better decisions in my life. I have a substantially better career than her, and my net worth is probably 10X what hers is despite the fact we are the same age. I was multi-time state champ in high school, competed at nationals, ran NCAA D1 and mixed it up with guys who went on to qualify for the Olympics. I realize that might sound silly in some regards, but it's not a small achievement to compete (at anything) at a level that less than 1% of the population ever exists on. I was not Olympic material, but I was close enough to it to know what that looks like and what it takes to perform at that level.
My girlfriend sometimes makes comments or says things in our conversations where it's clear to me that she sees us as equals and that her abilities are on par with mine, which is ridiculous, honestly. She does have some skills that I lack, and I appreciate that about her, but in terms of what level of performer we both are, how strong of a person we both are, intelligence, decision making, etc, it is not close.
I have been letting this slide for about a year now, but I'm thinking of finding a way to bring it up, in a lighthearted way. Not sure how well it will go over, but I kind of don't care, honestly.
