It's a straight up jog, it just has no place. We have 9 explosive events then a random 1500m there's zero incentive to train for. I'd rather see a different event that's actually competitive. It feels so weird to end the competition with an event none of them care about.
An 800m could make it interesting.
It’s a shame that none of them care about the 1500 but I like that it’s included. The decathlon is about finding the best athlete, and part of being a great athlete is being able to run a good mile. This goes back to elementary school gym class.
Most decathletes, really, train for nine events. Then, just "run" the 1500.
