He shouldn't go back to Jerry, but he's not the first person to get that big bounce in YEAR ONE after changing camps, only to return to previous form, or worse.
Go with whoever got him to the American record in the 10k.
Might be a nice goal next year to try for a really fast 10k. Do they still have that meet with a fast 10k in March/April that was in Arizona or California?
At least Grant split 13.3 for the final 100 -- much better than in the 10,000.
However, when Grant couldn't hold 61s-62s for more than a few laps, was pretty apparent this was not the same runner who set WRs 7 months ago.
Inclined to believe his participation in the GST races in April & May, in retrospect, was a mistake. Should have done what he always was doing back to his BTC days with Jerry -- disappearing for about 3 months after indoors to focus on altitude training while delaying his outdoor season opener until mid-late May or later.
Well, hope Grant recovers enough -- mostly mentally -- to race USAs XC in December and get on the US team for Worlds. But, would not be shocked if he declines to do so.
Who would have thought Grant would win more medals in Paris than Jakob?
Now, who would have predicted Grant would beat Jakob in Tokyo -- and only return home with two 8th place finishes?

Of course.
Sound Running's The TEN is scheduled for March 28th next year at JSerra HS in San Juan Capistrano, CA.
Would expect Grant to run either that race or choose to race the 3000 at USAs to make the WICs in Poland the week prior to The TEN. Would not do both.
If he does choose The TEN, that would be at least an AR attempt if not a WR attempt.
Didn’t he get injured in the middle of this season? Seems like he wasn’t the same runner after he declined to run the last Grand Slam meet

Ingebrigtsen’s injury hindered his training so Fisher be beating him wasn’t a good metric for anything There were nine guys that beat him today.
IF anyone under performed at this WC its Fisher.

Exactly, he was not even close to the medals this time.

Yes.
A slight hamstring strain which kept him out of the GST/Philadelphia meet early June.
However, doesn't appear that injury lingered. Believe Grant missed only a week of training. Came back a month later and ran that 3:48 mile at Pre. Now, closed tonight's 5000 in 13.3 for his final 100.
Hamstring wasn't the issue this week. Believe Grant's problem this year was "systemic"; I.e., the way he & Mike/coach planned out the year.
Contributing factor: 2 Americans plus several Europeans whom Grant has beaten in years past leveled up to become world class medal contenders. Grant was correct when he stated that for every Cheptegei who steps off the track, 5 news ones step forward.

So that he could become injured all the time or fade out? Please have a look to see where Schumacher’s representatives finished in the 5/10- you’ll see a dnf by Ahmed (injury) and 2x stinkers by Cranny.

Or try a new way with the real magic man , mr JS and his great Dancan system.
Cranny isn’t coached by Jerry. If she was, she wouldn’t have made the team.

Grant ended up with a yes man coach someone who talks a big game but lacks the proven experience needed at the elite level. Instead of building him up, this kind of guidance does more harm than good. It’s reminiscent of the Tinman situation with lots of confidence, plenty of answers, but no real results to show for it. What should be a gold standard coaching setup has turned into a limiting one. Grants coach was acting like he knows all and ultimately he’s going to be the decline of Grant
