Vote with your feet, both off the ground, and stop watching it.
I concur. Doesn't seem to make sense. I was watching with my son and he asked who were the girls jogging on TV.

It's a judged sport. The question is not what shows up on slo-mo or freeze-frame, any more than it is with gymnastics. If they look legal--in the opinion of the judges who are on the spot--they *are* legal.
And to respond to your title:
"Hurdles, why? The only question should be who gets from Point A to Point B fastest. Why put artificial barriers in the way? And then have a bunch of rules about how you can and can't handle them?"
"Breaststroke, why? The only question should be who swims from Point A to Point B fastest. Why have rules that limit your speed?"
Its people like you who watch it that keeps it around.
Yep, i am sure the 30 seconds I watch fully supported it.
As for the rules, i get the whole "to the naked eye while live" thing but come on.
As for thr hurdle thing. That is a bad analogy. A better anology would be be if the horizontal part of the hurdle wasnt there and the you had to jump over what "looked" to be how high the hurdle is without actually clearing anything.
