So I've listened to lots of Rock N Roll and know Steely Dan's hits as they were a FM staple for years.
But I am going to go down the rabbit hole and find out why they have so many devoted fans.
Please suggest the best album of Steely Dan as my initial listen.

Aja, The Royal Scam, Countdown to Ecstasy - I like them all. You can't go wrong starting at Can't Buy A Thrill and going in order.
groups like them did nothing but record, aiming specifically to constantly be on radio.
there is no point browsing through all their albums to hear the tracks that didn't make it. By their own standards, the radio standards were their best tracks.
Never understood the appeal, but then Poco and Seals and Crofts and Firefall and Bread also had loyal fans.
Their best album?

The things that pass for knowledge, I can't understand.
All of the ones they recorded by themselves in the studio. They never wanted to play live but they were forced to by the record company in their contract.

That band sucks. Pretentious music with a condescending attitude to anyone who thinks they suck. It's dated too - hasn't aged well, like Bad Company level stuff.

Strange Way is a very good song.
