Only 400m hurdler with 3 WC Golds. Only guy to go sub-46. This was a sub-par final, but this doesn't take away from his GOAT status.
(It's either him or Moses. Hard to compare as Moses has his legendary 122 final winning streak (albeit against much weaker competitions, look at all his winning times/winning time average from that era). And Moses only competed in two WCs (first was in 1983, well into his career, and he had to wait four years for the next one)
Top two 400m hurdlers in history are definitely Moses and Warholm
As a Norwegian, this was hard to watch. But sports is brutal and unpredictable. Warholm has had a great season (46.28 was pretty insane, and his 300m hurdles at Bislett Games was an absolute monstrous run). But some days the top dogs have an off day. Benjamin sort of had that in Budapest two years ago. Bronze isn't bad, but I don't think many expected 47.56 from him in that final (He bounced back a couple of weeks later in Eugene and did a phenomenal 46.39)
No big championships next year, but I hope we get a couple of face-offs between Benjamin and Warholm (and Dos Santos ofc)

He already bombed twice in a final WC. The WR is not out of reach for at least 2 other athletes , people have run 46.3 and below already. He doesn’t have the speed, his finish is questionable , he needs a perfect lane draw each time and this time he set himself up in his own words by “saving up for the final”. Warholm is successful in diamond leagues, races that he gets to rest all he wants before and get whatever lane draw he wants. That doesn’t sound like a GOAT to me. And the corny stuff he said before this race. Embarassing!

Yes sir agreed.
Regarding the final, the first smash really took its toll. He must have used up a mighty amount of energy to get back to the leaders and went backwards in the last 80m.

I mean he was also pretty successful in those 3 world championships he won. There was also those olympics a few years ago where he won the gold medal and broke the world record.
Warholm hasn't been the same since he tried pulling an SML by switching over the 400 flat, but failing.
Ever since he's came back to the hurdles, he's lost a step.
He’s never been as dominant after he tore his hammy or something mid race a couple years back. Maybe his doping regimen caused that and has since made him more cautious.
Warholm had a terrible race by his standards, not sure what happened, but he has had a very good year, 32.67 300mH world best, 46.28 400mH world-leading, DL Final win, and for his career, he has 3 world championship golds, 1 Olympic gold, Olympic record, multiple world records, one of the greatest performances of all time in that 45.94 by the charts, 3 DL Finals wins, and roughly 24 DL wins. When he started winning world's, he won in a 48 mid! The competition has only gotten better and he has had to beat three of the best ever. It turns out that while Dos Santos and especially Samba, for years, declined from their top level, Benjamin kept getting after it, adding cycling to his training, and has now been able to win Olympic and World gold after getting bested again and again by Warholm. Being at the top of the best era ever in 400m hurdling makes him the best ever, but he's still vulnerable to Benjamin getting there.

Warholm and Cockrell were in uncharacteristically fatigued before the last 100m straight. Both races were missing their presence at the front over the last 2 hurdles.

Edwin Moses is still the GOAT in my view.
Moses won every global championship available to him from 1976 to 1987.
If not for the USA's 1980 boycott, Moses would be a three-peat Olympic champion.
The unparalleled undefeated streak.
Ranked #1 by TFN 9 times (Warholm has been ranked #1 "only" 4 times)
Innovator of the 13-step pattern
Also noteworthy, Warholm now has a losing head-to-head record against Benjamin: 5-6. An athlete's GOAT case is really compromised when they have a losing record against a contemporary.

Moses lost at Mt. Sac in ‘77 but for eome reason officials gave him the won over unknown (at the time) Sam Turner, and the photo-finish picture mysteriously disappeared. So his streak wasn’t quite as long as listed. Moses was fantastic, but his bs after the Tokyo Olympics was petty, implying he could run like Rai and Karsten when he never had their raw speed. Just look at his relay performances.
Translated from Norwegian, seems that Warholm had a minor injury from the start:
Right after the race, Warholm explained that he felt a pain in his leg right out of the starting block. He crashed hard into a hurdle. He thought it was a cramp. – It started as a small thing after which I could run with it, but it didn’t get better after finishing the round. I don’t know what it is, and it’s not very serious, but everything has to be in order if you’re going to keep up with this company, says the 29-year-old. He’s not sure what’s wrong, except that his leg hurts a little. – We’ll have to see what it actually is, but I saw something was “off” – it wasn’t hard to see, says coach Leif Olav Alnes. – I haven’t actually planned any check-ups, but I have to find out what it is. I haven’t gotten that far, and it’s the last race of the season, we’re done. I don't think it needs to be amputated, but we need to find out what it is. So far we haven't thought about it, it's mostly disappointment, Warholm continued with a little laugh. Assistant sports director at the Norwegian Athletics Federation, Håvard Tjørhom, tells NRK that the injury will be examined tomorrow, Saturday
