I was never that impressed by her 400mh times. Always thought that they seemed faster than they were because of the lack of depth in the event. I openly said that Paulino and Naser were running equally fast times in the open 400 and that Sydney's converted times were only worth 48 low. I said that Chebet and Kipyegon were more impressive than SML. Oh, how wrong I was. 47.8. She really is it. Holy crap.
Did this performance convert anyone else?
My only gripe about SML was her minimal racing schedule. Whatever she’s inspired to do race forward, I’ll be happy to just sit back and watch. Absolutely one of the all-time greats.

I thought it was special and super fast but I did think SML was overhyped. I remember arguing that Chebet's runs were more impressive than SML's, for example. I know now how wrong I was. I never in a million years thought she'd come close to the open 400 WR - I didn't think anyone would. In my mind it is was the most untouchable WR in all of women's running. And now it looks like Sydney really is destined to break it. Just unreal.
