I don't know about the WR but he looked great in that semi. He ran a well-paced race, was way back, and came on like a locomotive train the last 150 meters.
I was shocked by how slowly Attaoui started. He appeared to be trying to keep up but just lacked the acceleration to do it. He lacks the great speed to break 1:41, it seems. He is an even or negative split runner; his 2:12 1k shows that he has outstanding endurance for an 800m guy. I'd think he could also hammer the 1500m right now.
Turns out Attaoui has only a 48.80 400m pr from 2022. Also, he had run 3:36 1500m a few years, but this year ran 3:32 in a 3:31.5 race won by Pihlstrom. That is solid but not wr-threatening. Surely he would go faster in a quicker race.
If the 800 slows down a tint bit and bunches up, it's anybody's race. Highly doubt we see a WR. Arop can't maneuver in a tight pack but he could launch one from 300m out and pray. Sedjati always has the 90s rocket fuel speed over the home stretch. Attoui looked great. Positioning is going to be the name of the game.

conveniently leaving out that earlier this month he just went 3rd AT at 1000m - 2:12.25, quicker than Cram, Makhloufi, Lagat, Arop, Morcelli etc and now behind only Coe (2:12.18) & Ngeny (2:11.96)
