Former Millrose boys mile champ is having quite a debut at Worlds.
Here is my interview with him after the 1st round. We’ll post today’s interview after he comes into the mixed zone.

He's good but that race very much suited him, Burgin didnt really want to take it out but had to as it slowed.
Where'd this guy come from?
Damn. Brazier nipped out of a small q due to heat 3. Hoppel out too

That's understandable selling it quite a lot. The guy ran a 1:43.18 national record in the semi.
McPhillips was a Phenom in Ireland winning multiple Irish underage and schools titles and smashing numerous age group records. From 800m to 3,000m including 3.49 for 1500m indoors at age 15.
In Feb 2021 he set a new Irish junior 800m record in a time of 1:46.13 indoors as an 18 year old. This would have been pre super spike and bicarb etc.
After some injury plagued years is really just getting healthy and displaying the promise that many in Ireland had hoped for.
Go after it in the final!

He's been injured for 3 years or so.
Won Euro U20 1500 in 2021 and finished second behind English at Indoor nationals that year..
Was on scholarship in UCD
He is cool as a Breeze
May be rooting for this guy to win.
This is one of those races where I am not sure who I will be rooting for going in but lock onto one guy as my rooting favorite once the race unfolds for some reason hidden to myself
Knowledgeable Irish guy wrote:

Great summary, slight correction the 1.46.13 was his first time wearing dragonflys so superslike there but for sure no bicarb, etc.
Also won european u20 1500m title.
Delighted to see him show his form on the big stage, though a rough moment for Mark to lose both his hotseat and his national record at the same time!
Certainly, look the part of a medal contender after the semi's and might even go so far to say medal favorite. Though honestly, any one of the finalists could medal and I wouldn't be surprised. Should be a fun final, imagine it will take being both lucky and good to win.
