100%, the best of the best have learned how to run fast, this slow stuff has been out for 6 years now. Jakob changed the game and without out him, the field was just so unsure of what to do! This was one of the boorish 1500m championship races that I have ever seen. At least the slow 10,000 was still fun to watch. But as the say of the NFL, ANY GIVEN SUNDAY. WTF happened to Niels Laros. This was tailor made for him. To much pressure for the young guy. I don't want to hear any more comparisons to Jakob Ingebrigtsen as 20 year olds. Jakob I. won the Olympic gold as a 20 year old, while 20 year old Laros bombed out, at least in the 1500m.
Field is left desperately looking around for who the next guy will be to lead, without alpha dog Jakob in the race. Kerr told everyone he was that guy then went DFL.
One consequence of this is that I think a lot of people have forgotten the art of classic championship racing. I believe that's why we've seen so many falls through the heats and semis during this championship; it's people not used to running in a big pack. Cheruiyot, Jakob, Stewie, and lately Nuguse, always had everyone strung out. But Jakob will be back in 2027 so I guess we'll be back to the sub-3:30 final

Jakob came in 4th in the 1500 as an 18 year old in 2019. Laros has run faster times than Jakob did then, but that is because track times in general have gotten faster (and while there are many factors, Jakob himself has contributed to that in the 1500). Laros is an excellent young talent of course, and the best currently in running, and obviously had an incredible season, but the championship results don't lie. 10th, 6th, and 5th for Laros so far in 1500 finals. 4th and 1st for Jakob at this point in his career (and of course, he didn't have 3 1500 finals in a row).
Love Jakob, but we can't only just credit him. Tim C led wire to wire in 2019 and in 2021 he tried to do that from 400 after Jakob took it out in 56, an already fast pace. Tim started the trend and Jakob definitely took it to a different level in 2024 when he went out in suicidal pace (according to both Henrik and Laros).

Again, big Jakob fan here, but although Laros led and Tim C took the lead with 2 to go, had they gone out in the same splits as 2021, it's very likely Laros would have the Gold right now. Wightman/Nader/Cherriuyut would be spent with 300 to go and not making any big moves, just trying to hang on for a Medal.

eh i disagree... jakobs tactics were terrible in the last olympics and of course everyone 'knew what to do' when someone starts blasting from the gun... his poor race tactics led to a fast race and no medal for him... it wasn't that no one knew what to do in the final, seemed like the field understand the disadvantages of leading a hot pace from the gun when abilities are close
glad to see credit to Potato Tim. He started this era. And without him pushing it at the third lap tonight, it would've been even slower, probably 3:37-38. He made the race much more interesting than it should've been.
As for Jakob, he's still the best of this generation if we go by track records (at least until 2027).
There are different guys each year winning (Olympic or World) gold, but he's still the only one since 2019 who has 2 silvers on top of that (Kerr has 1 silver and 1 bronze, Wightman 1 silver) and he also has the fastest PR. Hope he gets that Achilles heel sorted out and be back next year!
