I get what you are writing, but I think he is good. He probably tried to save energy and had to push a bit at the end to qualify (due to the insane competition in 15). Kerr will be there... Unlike..well you know - the norwegian.

No. He doesn't have the endurance yet. I can see him being incredible in the 1500.

Assuming Laros will become unbeatable is the biggest mistake anyone following the sport, let alone the men's 1500m could make. Has your friend not learnt anything?

It is not just about being a speedster to get the WR and dominant consistently. You have to be an all-time great with a unbreakable confidence to win and run fast. At this stage, Laros is going to be happy running pretty modestly paced 1500m.

And we're giving him the 1500 world record because...he entered the 5k at Worlds? I'm not following the logic.

I remember sitting in the stands in Tokyo four years ago watching a 20-year-old named Jakob Ingebrigtsen win the 1500 and wondering how he could be stopped over the next decade. Admittedly, Jakob has lived up to his substantial hype in other events, but he hasn't won a global 1500 title since then.

Then I watched Hocker run 3:27 in Paris last year. Wow, if no one can drop him in a 3:27 race, how does anyone beat his kick? Well Hocker hasn't won a 1500 since. He's not even in the 1500 final in Tokyo because he put himself in a bad position in his semi. What if the final is a 3:35 race tonight? Are we certain Laros will put himself in the right position and kick at the right moment?

Laros has also dealt with a few injuries the last few years. And there are always new talents coming up. He's a super talent, I think he'll win tonight, and it may well be the first of many. But track careers rarely go exactly according to plan. Just ask Jakob this year.

People are quick to jump on the hype train, but it is more than likely that Laros will continue be a super competitive and great athlete, while he battles with all comers but won't always be the man.

How he deals with set backs or big losses will be telling.

He hasn't even come close to demonstrating superb 5000 ability. WTF? And wait until Jakob is back healthy again and we can talk about unbeatable at that distance.

The year is 2021: how does Jakob ever lose a 1500 with his strength in every race?!

The year is 2022: how does anyone beat Wightman's combination of strength and closing speed?

The year is 2023: Kerr has Jakob's number. He's as strong as everyone else and has a better kick

The year is 2024: oh my god!!! Did you see Hocker's final 100m? He'll never lose a race again

One could be forgiven for thinking people are trying to jinx 1500m runners by calling them the favorites.

I saw the 13:10 on a stream. He simply couldn't hang on with the leader. Then he withdrew from Hengelo and Oslo. A month later in Madrid he looked much much better.

I suspect Laros and Lewandowski (his coach) focus on winning euro next year and not on a WR. He seems to care more about winning than about times.

It takes maximum endurance to run the 1500m well as he does. If he improves his 5000m potential, his 1500m time will come down as well.
