Does this mean Queens will lose it's athletics department? Would be unfortunate for a program that has had a lot of historic success. I think they had a couple solid milers a few years ago.

Could this see the return of legendary Queens distance coach Jake Krolick? I understand he left due to disagreements with the school’s previous leadership
Bad news for Queens University, hope they can turn it around. Would QuElon make significant impact in the SE region? Nationals in a few years?
There is a lot of talk in that article about how the merger helps Queens, but nothing about why Elon would want to do this. In my opinion, it lowers the quality of an Elon degree. Elon is in Burlington, NC on a very attractive quiet campus setting.
Elon attracts high income kids from the northeast who can shell out $100,000 per year but didn't graduate in the top of their class. Queens is in Charlotte and it doesn't exactly attract the best students.
I didn't go to either school and really don't care, but as someone who lives in NC this seems like an odd play by Elon.
Elon doesn’t currently have a men’s track program. The Queens men’s track program was a D2 powerhouse with notable athletes such as Simon Steuzel (one of the main agents bringing Kenyans to the NCAA)
As a big NC track guy, I enjoyed watching them back in the glory D2 days. Had some great milers, 1-2 at D2 nationals, Wallis, Wammetsberger, Cox, Thompson- top NC runners.

I do agree with you but you’re massively underselling Queens. It is one of the nicest neighborhoods in Charlotte and just 2 miles from the city’s downtown area (uptown as it is called). It also costs about $45k/year to attend.
Fun fact about Queens: Sean Brosnan (head coach of the Newbury Park dynasty) began his coaching career there as a volunteer back in 2008
The impact small D2 schools make on the US running scene is severely underappreciated. So many top coaches and athletes began their journeys at the D2 or D3 level
Is Jake Krolick the same guy who just missed the marathon trials one year? The name sounds familiar
yes it is that guy, he missed out by less than a second in 2020. Did a solid job building a good program at West Texas and had some success at Queens too.
Wow, didn’t know that. Could argue there’s no Nico Young without Queens!
Big fan of Krolick’s work. Would have loved to see how he would have done had Queens stayed D2. Had the beginnings of a solid distance program at the D1 level before leaving
Tough times for colleges, many closing and way more to come as population of college students dwindles.
Elon will set up Queens as their urban campus, with access to internships, research, etc.
They will put business, cosci, medical?, engineering? there.
Possibly even an 'urban semester' for humanities kids.
Lastly, they will offer evening programs to working adults.
Will have little impact on sports, as teams will just be the current Elon teams, with Queens disappearing.

Yes, this is what Elon gets out of it. It will likely follow in the same vein as Elon siting its law school in downtown Greensboro rather than as part of its main campus in Burlington. Elon's announcement emphasized their graduate school opportunities that would come with the Queens campus near downtown Charlotte.
Always thought it’s a real shame Queens don’t have a real track facility. The location could easily make it an attractive place to draw in some top recruits.
The Charlotte running community needs more public tracks as well!
As a Myers Park native I definitely agree, it is a shame they need to go to the other side of town!
Saw some guys on the sugar creek greenway! guys were moving!
Who??
Queens, like many small private schools, has had some recent financial issues. Last summer there were some staff cuts. Elon is probably trying to grow their MBA programs. The trend is to move Executive MBA programs to cities and away from college town campuses. Charlotte is much more a financial center. Media reports say that Queens will continue to have athletics
However it also shows another problem. Queens moved to D1 mainly due to success of its swim team. As a D1, basketball needs to be competitive to have hopes of winning an automatic bid to the tournament. There is no football revenue. It has too many sports to fund at the D1 level. As a D2 it was fine and had a niche in the Charlotte metro area.
Will be interesting to see if a strong grad school will help draw in some good runners looking to finish out their last years of eligibility
