Like the title says. Jakob has never ran a 10000m on track in his career. But he has run a couple of 10km cross-country races. And he has faced off with today's World Champion, Gressier, a couple of times.
In the 2016 European Championships Jakob won the U20 race (6.0km) in 17:06 and Gressier finished 4th in 17:19
In the 2021 European Championships Jakob won the senior race (10km) in 30:15 and Gressier finished 3rd in 30:34
Jakob also did a 10k road race two weeks after the Doha WC in 2019. He won in 27:54 (smashing the former European U20 record, which was 28:49 by Julien Wanders). (He also had a 10k split of 27:27 in his half-marathon in Copenhagen last year)
Gressier won today in 28:55.77. Final 1000m was 2:26.11, final 400m was 54.4ish (I looked at the race analysis at IAAF's page, but those were incomplete. It showed each 100m segment, but only from 100m to 2500m)
So would Jakob (in without injury issues) have been a Gold medal contender in today's race?
