For the Olympics, I set the over/under for American medals in distance events at 2.5. More people took the under, but the U.S. went well over.
For the Worlds, I'm setting the over/under at 4.5 medals for Americans in the 800, 1500, 3000 steeplechase, 5000, 10000, and marathon, for men and women combined.

I’m taking the under based on what I take to be a somewhat bizarre makeup of the team. We’ve got a ton of debutants for this level of competition, I haven’t compared to years past but doesn’t it seem like we got an unusual amount of turnover in the team from 2024 to 2025? Events like M1500 and W800 had very few to no established favorites make the squad this time (Hocker is an obvious and glaring exception of course). I would have pegged Nuguse and Hoey as strong medal threats but they didn’t even make the team. Will runners like Koech or Strand, or Roisin Willis pull it off in their first ever majors? Doubtful? And now Kenny Rooks is out, so there goes another Paris medalist.
Besides Hocker we’re probably hoping for the dudes in the 5k/10k for the most part. I wouldn’t favor any of our women to medal. I hope to be very wrong about all of this and to see a big haul of American medals though.
