Hello, looking for a little training advice. (sorry if there is a search feature and many similar posts, first time here. I'll look around but wanted to post this first as the decision is time sensitive)
I just received an invite for a trail race (Mammoth trailfest) I signed up for 6 months ago. Later, I decided to aim for my first marathon this year (mid Dec).
I'm currently doing well, closing out week 4 of a Hansen's beginner plan. The trail race would be on the 6th week of the training plan and is 16mi w/ 3900' of climbing. I've done a number of similar trail races and don't have any concerns with finishing. My training plan has three runs which would add up to similar milage for that same weekend the race is on, though obviously not with the same vertical.
I'm torn on doing the race and looking for any advice from others who have more experience. I'd like to run the trail race, but it's not very important and the marathon is.
Will a 16mi, 3900' vert, trail run on week 6 of Hansen's method be too much of an additional workload, and end up being a negative impact on my marathon?
