My last post got deleted and taken down, but I was only trying to share some insight on the UofM program for women. Coach McGuire seems to have an outdated style of training that promotes repeated bone injuries. Nearly half the team, every season, is taken out with stress-related injuries and he has still not taken the steps necessary to fix how he trains his women. Obviously, there's been some successful runners to come out of Michigan's XC program, but as a whole, they've been going downhill for the past 5-6 years. They're no longer making the national meet; placing 9th at the Big Ten XC Championships and 6th at Regionals last year and that was with veteran runners on their squad.
I personally don't think Michigan is a place that fosters a healthy environment for growth and long-term success. A lot of their best runners continue to plateau (which can be normal), but it seems like a consistent pattern amongst all of his women. Anyone who's followed U-M women's xc, you'll know that their top runners from the past 5-8 years have never progressed past their freshman year or from one particular season. I just don't understand how this keeps happening to what was once a national-runner up program for Women's Cross Country and a powerhouse in the sport.
