Am I crazy or is Worlds usually held in Aug? I feel like it's been so long since there has been any meaningful track meets and I don't care anymore. It's football season now.

It was moved later in an attempt to avoid the horrible heat and humidity in Tokyo in August. (It looks like it will be pretty good weather temperature wise.)
World Athletics would be well served to make sure the global championships are wrapped up by the end of August.
Keep the global DL meets, of course, but drop the DL final. It’s pointless. The DL meets are the majors just the way they are in their singularity. Why have a DL final? It is akin to having a World Marathon Majors final. What’s the point?
The World Champs should just be two weeks after the last DL meet and everything wrapped up by 1st weekend of September.
WA also needs to tighten up the schedule (for the love of god we do not need 10 day meets!) and keep it mostly centralized in Europe, where the sport of T&F is exceptionally healthy and popular.
Rather than water everything down with expansion, tighten up the schedules and centralize the most important events where your market is the strongest. Major sports have figured this out.
But WA is pretty dumb and pretty lazy. As long as the money is coming in from far fetched federations (you can include Eugene ‘22 into this), they will kowtow every time.
I think Eugene 2022 was an outlier partly because that WC had been moved from 2021 after the 2020 Olympics were moved to 2021. I assume they had to pick dates for Eugene in 2022 that wouldn't conflict with the 2022 European Championships and 2022 Commonwealth Games, both of which were later in the summer.
But looking at the dates for the last few WCs, it seems to be weather-related: In warmer climates, they push the WCs later to avoid the hottest months, whereas in cooler climates like Eugene or London, they are in the more traditional summer timeframe.
Worlds should be the end of June, right after NCAA's. Not fair to make NCAA athletes extend their season too long. Don't understand these late summer meets - people should be getting ready for XC in July and August for return to school in August. Too euro-centric for me. The USA (the only country whose opinion should matter) needs to have these meets scheduled to our seasonal structure and convenience. Same with world XC, should be early December after NCAA, never understood why it was in March when XC is a fall sport. Then you move onto indoor track.

That's completely ridiculous. The Diamond League final has produced spectacular performances year after year. It's always right at the top of the highest scoring non-global championships meets ever, as listed in this link:
World records from Gudaf Tsegay and Mondo Duplantis contributed to the Wanda Diamond League Final being the highest quality non-championship meeting in history
Prefontaine had the highest point total for a one-day meeting each of the past two years.
The Diamond League final was better when it was split evenly over two days, which enabled doubling like Jakob managed at Eugene 2023. This year they enabled spotlight on field events on day one, then crammed all the races together over 3 hours on day two.
Combined with many runners not showing up due to Tokyo later, it caused an atypical Diamond League final. And with the always-brilliant fixation on recency, many are remembering the Diamond League final as always being that way.
Coe has emphasized many times he wants a longer season. That means later championship dates, otherwise too many of the top names call it quits. He has no control over the Olympic dates. Those can't be later because NBC won't allow it. We've already had a comment here indicating lack of interest after football starts.
In non-Olympic years the championships are going to be later on the calendar. Get used to it. Beijing 2027 is using almost the identical dates as Tokyo 2025. Next year's World Ultimate Athletics Championships similarly are 3 consecutive days during the second week of September.

This. The Olympics were held in Tokyo in 1964: the 10th through 24th of October.
