800m? 1500m? Something else?
And what about non standard races. Would something like 500m up a steep hill be the ultimate vo2 max test?

Any race that lasts 5-8 minutes.
The white race
But a high vo2max wouldnt be as beneficial when running down a hill for 5 to 8 minutes compared to running up a hill for the same time, right? 🤔

Post of the year!
How many posts have you read this year? Fewer than 10? 🧐
Not the black race.
They have good pharmacy.
I do not know
I would say 2k-5k as that is supposed to be a measure of aerobic power ( VO2max). Tests such as the Billat 6 minute run, Cooper 12 minute run or Balke 15 minute run are used to assess this parameter.
8/15 has a greater anaerobic component - I denote these as LA/O2 and O2/LA, where the anaerobic contribution is greater in the 800m and less in the 1500m, but still significant in both.
Thought the hill rep was to determine maxHR, not necessarily VO2max.
