a long time. you have to do it for many months to see improvement...but you will.
bump
why bump? you got your answer...a LONG time.
What are your current PRs and what are you hoping to run?
pb's 800m 1-51, 1500m 3-42, 3k 8-03, 5k- 13-56
What mileage were you running when you did those quick times?
i was running 60 miles per week on average and up to 70 someweeks.
Those are very fast times. It sounds like you are already a very experienced runner. The 100 miles a week training will pay off in stages, with the first stage being after about three months. You'll train without much improvement and then you'll suddenly be able to run much faster, which will reflect the fact that your capillary network will have developed an extra dimension of density in your muscle fibers.
You will have reached a critical mass where you can suddenly perform at a higher level as your body transports more oxygen and blood to the working muscles. You can compare this process to adding a network of underground pipes. It takes time to lay the new pipes, but eventually you'll have enough length to tie the new pipes into the existing network, which will suddenly allow you to move more volume.
Base training also develops your mitochondria, which produce energy from fat and carbohydrates and allow for muscle contraction. This structure also develops slowly.
Thanks! Interesting! Iam unaware of the science behind running and in the past just trained without really knowing what I was doing! Ive been doing it for 5 weeks and getting use to the higher volume! Desptie being reasonable times they are not good if you compare them at an elite level. I am hoping that the extra mileage will help propel me in the major games qualifying region. Hopefully at 5k and 10k. Thanks for your advise.

How many is many? Four? Twenty-four?
also dont lose all quality of yur trianing i xcant exactly imagine you did that on 8 minute/miles even if you are lented you still needed quality.IF you going to do zero speed now you might nt become that much better.

Assuming those times are legitimate, you should be giving all of us advice. If you ran 13:56 off of 60-70 mpw, you have a lot of improvement ahead of you.
i can promise you them times are legit! When i ran them times I was running 6-15-30 min miling on my steady runs and running 2/3 sessions per week. Now im running more mileage i run slightly slower about 6-50-7 min mileing and 2sessions per week (1 track/ 1tempo. Im feeling stronger already! or maybe thats just a phycological advantage of doing larger volumes.
2 days, 2 weeks, 2 months, 2 years, 2 decades....and i am not being a dick either. different people respond in different ways. i have seen people bump up mileage and immediately chip away at their times. i have also seen people bump miles and hold it and not see any improvement, and then, they break out like crazy, like 90s in an 8k and up to 10 seconds in the mile.
You'll probably see some good results after about 4-6 months. You'll do quite well for the 10k with your 800/1500m
speed. Hope you have a good coach. Those are some pretty decent times for you've run. Good luck
For me the mileage will was fully benificial after 4 years, though though I had a huge increase in performaces after 3 months than a platau. The big jump took a long time...as I have already said, 4 years. But then again, I was doing the marathon training stuff, not the 800
