Those four cannot even make top three at the current NC State team. Surrounding yourself with best friends in a comfortable environment is not the best way to reach your full potential.

Tuohy's problems go all the way back to the last year of college. Maybe a health issue. Who knows? It is one thing not to progess in college from high school. But to regress that much from college seems out of whack. She was never on the pace, which was slow.

Henes has had the lung issue and has not regained form. But Tuohy is clearly in better physical shape than she showed today. But 9:30ish through 3000 and then nothing when the pace quickened.

all the more reason she needs to get out of this NCAA mentality she's stuck in. its like she's clinging to what was probably the best 4 years of her running career, afraid to let go and start all over again. but if she ever wants to win a world title or go to Olympics she needs to get out of her comfort zone and start training both physically and mentally as a pro.
She just isn't good enough. No change in scenery or coaching will make her good enough. It's over.
that may very well be true and she wouldn't be the first NCAA phenom to flame out in the pros. but she should at the very least be proactive and take charge of her career. hopefully this race has opened her eyes to that. that said, maybe she's perfectly happy where she is, so what the hell.

I don't know if it's over but the fawning Touhymania that was so popular on LR was so overblown. To be sure, she had a very good h.s. career, but so do many others who never hit the elite level. She also had success in the NCAAs but I never got a sense that she would have real breakout performances. Let's see if she can stay healthy and begin to close the gap with the top U.S. runners.

I wouldn't put too much into today. Yeah, it was bad. But at some point, she probably just mentally quit and was just going through the motions. She's in a no win situation in a race like this. She can't dictate the pace because nearly every runner in the field has a faster PR. And, when the pace gets fast in the last 2k, she doesn't have that gear. Until she shows she can run 14:40 or faster in a rabbited race, the results will be like this. She should go out to Provo and train with Hassan's coach. He's dying to coach a few other runners.

She finished dead last in the US 5k track champs. She should take a lot of stock about today and use it to motivate her to get back on track. She was completely destroyed out there and didn’t belong. At least Henes has the health issue to fall back on but Touhy just flat out bombed out there at the worst time.
she's an Adidas athlete (as is Elly Henes) a brand that doesn't really have a pro team with a specific location. seems like those athletes float and kinda do their own thing. I think her plan was to create that team culture with her and former teammates training together, which on the surface makes sense, although the results clearly aren't there.

So then what do you suggest, cornfield, after nikkeeee bought out smith?
training at altitude with Elise Cranny? if she got the chance to train with someone that talented and with that much experience in the pro game she should jump at the chance. problem is now that Cornfield is Head Coach at NAU he might not want to take on any new pro runners.
When you look at a lot of the top pros, many of them had to break out of their comfort zones to get to the next level, move far away, join a group and train with different people. I’m not sure what bumming around Raleigh is doing for her at this point. She’s a year out of college, she needs a new beginning.
Colleen Quigley talked about how training with the BTC was a whole other level for her and she couldn't believe the paces at first. Say what you want about her but while Colleen was with BTC, she was one of the best Steeplers in the country.
