Why is America the Only Civilized Nation on the Planet without Universal Healthcare?

In the early 1900s when people were pushing for it in the US, it got stopped because people realized universal would mean blacks too. So in short, originally it was due to racism. Now it’s because all the pharmaceutical companies and health care companies lobby(bribe) against it.

Because we've been wasting trillions of dollars defending you so you could completely ignore your own defense.

Meanwhile, the UKs NHS is on the brink of collapse... and all the others are trending towards disaster.

Because despite some needed tweaks to the system, Americans prefer to remain free and that includes making their own healthcare decisions.

The Scandinavian countries are coming to the same conclusions by the way as the showcase for socialized medicine has gone from single digit percentage private healthcare to nearly 30% preferring private to universal since the 90’s

The status quo is unacceptable. Health insurance companies and hospitals are engaged in the grift of the century. They charge ungodly amounts and cover very little. Other nations at least provide for their citizens. America prepares their bankruptcy. The health care system throughout Western Europe is far better.

Defending them.....from whom?

The real answer is: Americans hate "giving free stuff" to poor people.

That is the main reason why Americans pay double for "healthcare" compared to other advanced countries but get almost nothing in return.

There is universal health care in the US, Medicare and Medicaid. It sucks, but whoever can't get private insurance can get that.

The yahoos always going on about "Medicare for all" get nowhere because all the old people on Medicare hate it, and buy supplemental insurance if they can.

Here's the deal with health care: it's for old people. That's who gets unpreventably ill. Fully insuring all young people removes any incentive for them to stay healthy.

All these social-med utopias are full of overweight, lazy, smoking, drug-using leeches who expect millions of dollars to be spent keeping them alive through chronic illness, as universal coverage does. The consequences in the US from diabetes alone are devastating. Look into the rise of "dialysis centers" for one of the horror stories

Not a single member of NATO other than the US has met their obligations since the 1960s.

This is why Europe can do nothing to help Ukraine even if it wanted to. After 80 years of decay and neglect Europe doesn't have functional military.

You think European healthcare systems started in 1992?

While the US was spending trillions to babysit Europe rather than funding it's own healthcare system Europe was spending almost nothing on defense and building infrastructure and healthcare systems.

And the Soviets killed 80% of it. The only reason the Soviets didn't take all of Europe was the US military.

Do you really think anyone thinks, “oh gee, healthcare is free so I’m just going to f*k up my health so I can sit around sick on someone else’s dime”? It’s ungodly expensive in the US and look at how unhealthy the average person is. Getting sick will bankrupt you and maybe your children even after you’re dead. That’s no way to live. I always lived a healthy life and got cancer at 30. Thank goodness it wasn’t in the US though…

Obamacare did not make things more affordable. It drove up costs and caused mass consolidation of insurers and providers. Monopolies screw the consumer.
