He may have received a new contract today but the NCAA is starting an investigation. They have multiple men and women on their roster that have signed professional contracts with performance bonuses before they came to the NCAA. This would violate NCAA amateurism. Its coming to light because the same kids signed NILs with new brands and the old ones are not happy. Going to be some fireworks soon.
LRC addition: New Mexico head coach Darren Gauson contacted us after this thread was posted because he said there were some innaccuracies with this post.
He confirmed that another school had reached out to both New Mexico compliance and the NCAA with concerns about the eligibility of some of their athletes. Gauson said the NCAA reached out to New Mexico recently and that the NCAA was satisfied with the documentation they had provided, which had been shared prior to the athletes first competing in the NCAA. Gauson said the NCAA cleared the athletes to compete at regionals.
Here is what Gauson sent to LRC in a text message:
"No investigation, the NCAA clarified that New Mexico athletes were deemed eligible and not in violation of any professional contracts or pro agents. All relevant information was disclosed with all athletes prior to them competing. The NCAA verified their amateur status."
