If somehow a test was introduced that caught any cheaters immediately, so nobody doped. How different would athletics look within a couple of years? Would it be unrecognizable? The Japanese dominating the marathon etc?
Cool. Would the dopers know, or would they all test positive at Worlds in Tokyo, and then learn about 1 - 2 months later? In the latter case, I bet that most medals would have to be redistributed, and most stars be banned for four years.

It would be like time travel. Probably back to about 1968 or so - earlier for the sprints and field events - (and allowing for better tracks and shoes).
Kenyans wouldn’t make any more long distance podiums.
So you believe that drugs improve performance?
No, he knows it for a fact. You don't have to quantify it to an exact degree to know that. If you got punched in the head you would know it would hurt; you don't have to "believe" it would. How much? Doesn't matter. It would hurt - for a fact. (Could even impede performance).

American nationwide drug program would halt. Kenyans would cease to compete. Same goes for Spaniards. You would not believe even If I told you how common peds are.

The Steroid Era in major-league baseball from 1994 to 2004 saw a dramatic increase in home runs and career resurgences of late-career players. Anabolic steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs (

Road races would look more like in the 1980's/90's when there was more diversity and fewer sweeps by Kenyans and Ethiopians.
Yes and the men's too. The shoes certainly help but anything under 217 or 204 is at the very least likely doping. We are approaching peak Tour de France level cheating right now. Doesn't help that greedy agents and coaches secretly want their athletes doping so they can profit financially. That's a low key part of the problem too.

Athletes would be a lot less muscled, although theyd still look fit. Women would look less masculine or androgynous. You'd see less adams apples, and masculine jaws on women, and men would look more normal. You would no longer see skinny stick insects with muscles, and performances would drop considerably. You probably wouldnt see acne or braces, and sprinters would no longer look like competitive bodybuilders. East africans would still be good, but nowhere near what they are now. The USA would also do well in most events ,but again, nowhere near what they are now.Japan would dominate the marathon. Olympic qualifying standards would drop way down in all events.
I think we can get a clean sport using a dipping version of an implant or GCM. If you have a device taking readings continuously even a micro dose would be detected.
